Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" I'm not sure that 1 is correct. I don't speak for everyone, but it seems as if most people who desire instanced loot or similar, don't want the current FFA system to disappear. People desire the option to choose between FFA loot and instanced loot. If nobody plays FFA parties, then the community will have shown what it desires. Currently there seems to be a roughly even split of FFA parties and no-ninja parties. I will happily play in either, but the problem arises when people ninja items in no-ninja groups. Number 2 I agree with, although it seems that most of the posts come from a small number of vocal posters. |

(1) was mostly a generalization of what (2) thinks all of us are.
Also...there are indeed people like in (1), specially most of those that make the "loot sucks" threads in the first place. |

" Uh. no. You just missed the meaningful posts before Vooodu entered the discussion and derailed everyone. It's been kinda downhill from that point on. However, there's not much left to discuss. There's only banter remaining. IGN: Mibuwolf

" Well, yeah, I did only read the posts after Vooodu started posting :P However, this is how I feel in other threads (before they get locked) regarding this issue, like that "allow people to duel each other" thread not a long time ago. I guess I could just try spending an afternoon reading this thread since the beginning :P |

wtf could everyone in here still possibly be talking about....?

I have a possible loot solution that I don't think has been mentioned specifically but is based on several ideas already mentioned.
What if all items had short unnamed loot timers (3-5 seconds) and infinite (as large as the screen) pick up range? As soon as you click on an item it disappears on your screen or changes color (the game tells you that you have laid claim on the item so you don't spend the next couple of seconds madly clicking on the item). After the timer is up, the item is randomly distributed to one of the people who clicked it. If only one person clicked the item then he gets it. If no one clicked the item then it just sits there FFA. The advantages of this system are that everyone has a chance to get an item that wants an item regardless of range, latency, and reflexes. People would have no excuse for not being able to get items. It also makes people have to pay attention and stops people from sitting around waiting for the loot timer to end. Pathing issues and other obstacles to getting to the loot would be eliminated. Pickit bots would also not have much advantage due to the fact that the average player should be able to adequately compete against them. This would also eliminate the feeling of having an item stolen because everyone has a fair chance and the items have no names. |

how about just having real FFA but the loot gets tossed around to random places on the screen = FFA with no melee advantage

" That's actualy one of the best idea i've read so far ! (didnt read everything though) - Fair chance to get the item to those who've seen it droping. - Suppressing the "item waiting" type of gameplay. - If the item is off-screen, then it become FFA because nobody can see it until the time is up. - No "physical" issue. - This system works even in solo play time. - As for FFA mad looters they shouldnt be copmplaining either since they still have the thrill of beeing able to compete on getting the item by clicking on it. - The only drawback i find is for the slow computers/net or fat desync time... but since 3G is already working on it full time it might not be an issue for long. Edit : Oh and what about a kicking system ? Well if there is a unwanted player in a party for whatever reason. just a simple vote to kick... Self regulating community + players which are toxic to part of the community will be excluded from it. everybody wins. you might want to add a part making a player kicked several times from the same players not beeing able to see the party of the others. I find it sad people can't appreciate the developers vision for this game and it's world.
The gameplay mechanics must reflect said vision, or it won't feel right. Oh, and we've been over this. Any talking in this thread is venting. Suggestions are moot. |

" Until GGG stop hiding and actually make a statement this thread will continue to grow, not really that shocking to me. |
