Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
I think there should be lootmechanic options when you make a group. That would satisfy everyone.

All ranged builds will stay without loot or become dead in free-for-all loot mode. Timer should be around 5 seconds for loot claiming, if less - u can't take your loot from boss if instance creator is from another region, so u get high delay and it takes 0.5-1 sec to loot each item.

they set out with an idea, plan and have stuck to there guns so far. All this fuss about loot its beyond a joke now. People will just have to accept that the loot is every ones for the grabbing and not just "yours". They have added timers which has its pros and cons but its beter than having no advantage to getting loot.
Instanced loot has its cons aswell, I mean imagine it was instanced loot but all the unique items we had to roll on (dice) there would still be complaints about one thing or another. Imagine getting the item every time, instead of losing it to a ninja. You would already have every thing you need and loads of currency items, To easy. I dont enjoy losing loot or currency items my self, but I new what i was getting into before i started playing this game. That being said and knowing loot will never be change maybe something should be done about how people party up together, a huge change in the party interface or guilds we need some kind of resource to allow us as a community to band together in game some how so we pretty much know the loot is 100% your drop while your in a party. Trusted players with some kind of mark (which you get for not loot stealing) Guilds / options / guild bank Community options for chat in game. Friends Chat channel + ranks for the chat channel admins. there is loads of ways to get around the loot issues without making it instance loot. |

the problem with instancied loot remains the size of the inventory, coz if you kill a boss, then det 3 instnacied loot but don't have enough room for them, what happens ?
A small window with a 5 second timer ( or 10 ) that only you can see, proposing you to automatically grab an item, or a 10 sec delay would be much better to me. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

" You do know that the current timers are based on your character's distance from the items, right? That's why if you're in a completely different room and an item drops for you there is a much longer timer than if you are right next to it. The timers are not random: they promote equal opportunity regardless of range. |

and whan you are a range, running directly to it :
1) makes no sense if the area is not clean and your dps is needed ( it's just ... dumb as hell ) 2) is too dangerous if there are monsters blocking the way, the timer is not taking that in ocnsideration ( it's just ... dumb as hell ) 3) is nto always possible du to the lag that the 48234165452 magical effect from the group can produce, and a melee will most probably get it then ( it's just ... dumb as hell ) SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

This is so frustrating!!!!
I have no doubt this has been said before, i also have no doubt this will not be read by people that matters (when it comes to decisions about this problem), but i HAVE to vent!! As a ranged char i spec my toon different than melee people do, and as such it is NOT sufficient with a timer allowing me to react to a item drop. Yes, in most cases i do have time to see the drop, identify it as something i want, run to it and pick it up, but in some cases i don't, due to for instance "i have no idea why, but sometimes i'm standing on top of my item clicking my ass of but it won't join the company of the other items in my bag". Anyway, even IF i have time enough to pick something up, i might not have the build to do it safely! And even if i'm playing sc, that 15% xp loss is PAINFUL on higher levels. Yes (to all you haters), I could play solo, or with irl friends or whatever, but why should my playing be limited to less than the whole experience the game is capable of giving me? The current system is not fair!!! It works, but it favors melee/tanky players :/ Ranged/squishy players are left hoping that people around them are fair.... Not good! I enjoy this game. I do. But when i see a unique (wand)drop being snatched away from me (due to reasons i don't understand since i was clicking on it like a mad man), it utterly rapes my enjoyment of the game! I do NOT like to compete with my fellow players! That is for pvp or cut-throat. In normal mode, let's try to avoid making people angry and/or sad continuing with this not very well thought out (or in the very least not very well functioning (just look at the number of threads on this topic on the forums)) loot system..... My 2 cents :) Edit: http://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/17i5sp/i_never_had_a_problem_with_the_drop_system_until/c85zgvv Read the comment commenting the comment commenting this comment. It's a great read!!! (Hehe, i'm refering to the comment from solistus. I don't know how to link directly to a spesific comment. Sorry ;)) Last edited by Meisen#2117 on Feb 14, 2013, 8:28:13 AM

" That's what your friends list is for: add players you like/trust and then play how you want together. There are already a number of groups/guilds that do recruiting on the forums here, and it was the same way in D2. If you want a community of like-minded gamers then all you need do is create one. Best of all: you wouldn't even need to foot the bill for private game servers to play this game. I used to play with The Amazon Basin back in the D2 days, and our policy on looting was that we shared everything after the run was over, often dumping everything on the ground in town for people to look over. We demanded courtesy and politeness in our games as well. Should I have expected complete strangers in public games to abide by all those rules? Of course not. This very thread is a pool of players with seemingly similar values and ideas on how the game should be played: why are you all not playing together? Add some people from this thread to your friends list and have a ball playing within your own subset of rules. This is PC gaming: we have all the tools at our disposal for getting organized and we've had them for years. |

" loot is the reward for killing the mob...turning it in another "challenge" you just making worst the gain / effort curve... looting is everything in an aRPG and if the mechanics are making it counterproductive people WILL look other ways around it (i.e. play only solo like me) and this will result in players blocked from the multiplayer element of the game.. stop impling that IL will make the game easier....you look silly making this clueless fact... loot is THE REWARD for KILLING the MOB never forget that When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

The FFA looting is probably the biggest issue i have with this game. If it doesn't get fixed elegantly, whether it's through an option for instanced loot or some other way; i will never buy anything from this game. It's that simple. The system completely discourages grouping for me and i don't see my interest lasting if i do nothing but solo most of the time (as i do now).
