Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
Just putting this here. The quote is from a dev, Brian.
" That's because people are waiting to snag someone else's stuff. Otherwise they'd be out there killing monsters. So pure FFA is too unfair. Timed FFA, no matter the assigned time, drags the game because everyone's waiting for the bars to go away to ninja stuff. I believe the best thing is to mark people who take items that have been assigned to someone else. Like a red X in the portrait or something like that. Have it last a week. Let the communnity decide. EVE online has something similar in regards to player killing. There's a Security Status. It goes from 10 to 0. As you commit heinous acts, it starts going down. It's been while since I last played EVE, but if I recall it has two effects: as far as game mechanics, if I recall, concord no longer protects you in high sec areas or something like that. It also brands you for the rest of the playerbase. Carebears mistrust a pure 0 pilot, reds wear pure 0 as a medal. Here is something you should read Chris. Hope it clears the ninjas from the legit players. Or for crying out loud introduce a system option for grouping so that people who don't want that cut throat looting system that GGG is offering can choose an alternative one where ninjas wont have a chance or if you want to make this more simplar. Introduct a random loot option so that whenver there are rares they randomly go to selected people.
Like others says, ppl ignore mobs and just sit there waiting for someone to stuff up not getting their loot. GGG can surely introduce loot options for groups, why can't GGG do that and other mmo's can. At the very least give people that option. The Good the Bad & the Ugly

" This is a funny statement for a pro FFA player to make. If loot is for the party then why are you guys cool with loot competition that leaves some people who are contributing members of the party in the cold? Why is it ok that a player can be working in a party and end up with 1/5th of the possible loot that the other players are able to snag? RNG loot is fair because it is distributed randomly. Killing the monsters and getting lucky is what it takes to get loot. Earning it by 1) Having a better connection or 2)having better mouse skills is simply silly. Nothing about it is hardcore or even interesting. Doesnt' fit in with the rest of this awesome game. Standard Forever Last edited by iamstryker#5952 on Feb 3, 2013, 2:03:39 AM

Actually, it fits in rather well.
What doesn't fit in, is playing in some game where a monster dies, and different people see different things. Also, and I cannot stress this enough. I honestly see the following occurring should instanced loot ever make it in this game: Thread-> DROPS RATES ARE TOO LOW!!!!!!!! I kill a fucking rare mob, and all I get is 2 items!!! Or, when I kill several blues and get NOTHING!!!! FUCKING IDIOTIC!!! Drop rates need to be buffed NOW!! What's even worse, I kill a unique mob, and get 2 or 3 items. How the hell am I supposed to progress with these fucking drop rates!!! Increase drop rates NOW, or I'm LEAVING this POS game. Just calling it. Because this is exactly what happens in every other game with instanced loot. |

" Take a look at the user interface for instanced loot I detailed on the suggestion forum in this post: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/95930#p1013235. Using an approach like that you still see all the loot. It also has a feature that makes it easy to give up your loot right to an item so someone else in the party who needs it can take it. Also, only certain types of loot are instanced in that design. Seriously it answers the issues you are raising. |

" you sir are total clueless or...total clueless you see that's they problem because diablo3 has instanced loot you believe that the drop rates where low cause of IL...but infact they were low and total random cause of RMAH...get some facts straight sir... this is the new line of defense for FFA? do not change it cause people will qq about drop rates? com'on When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

" Actually drop rates in PoE are also horrible..and there is no AH... :)..just saying.. I just don't believe that d3 drops were adjusted because of AH..if they were..why PoE has exactly same problem? :) |

While I think the game is fine as it is, I also think some party options wouldn't hurt.
Party option "Loot sharing" - "Free for all" (Default option) -> The system how it currently works - "Allocated" -> Items are allocated to a specific person (But everyone can see it) Leaving party - If the party is set to "Allocated" the person who left the party is removed from the instance imitately and respawns in town. Kick from party - If the party is set to "Allocated" the person who was kicked from the party can loot everything. ( I know this could be abused if two friends are in a party and something nice is dropped, but it also prevents kicking other players to get their loot ) - Or previously allocated items just stay allocated. Switching the option - Everytime a new member is added to the party the option is switched back to default (Free for all). And if the option is changed to "Allocated" all party members have to agree this decision. - Previously allocated items stay allocated Timer [optional] - On "Free for all" the timer reserves some time for the specific player to react and pick up the item. - On "Allocated" the timer gives other party members some time to look at the item and maybe tell the player it's allocated to that they would like to have it. Manual allocation [optional] - Players can do a right click on an item allocated to them and manually allocate it to a party member of their choice. I tried to prevent any abuse of this option while I wrote this down. However, there might still be a way I just missed XD. Last edited by grasmann#3903 on Feb 3, 2013, 3:01:01 AM
