Either you wait for them or your party members miss out.

If someone does not take part in action/killing with the group then its fair that he doesn't get loot.
So it's fair to not let members of your party sort out there inventory without being punished for doing so?

if they ask and we all go for a short inventory cleanup then it is ok to stop and wait them but if someone is picking up every crap and slowing down the group why in heck is fair to give him loot?

the loot is a reward to the killing of a mob ... not for your /played
:)
When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself
I was in a group once. A monster was killed and it dropped a rare item. Loot timer was in effect, with my character's name on it. It was impossible for me to get there in time, as I was very far away from the drop and it's on a higher ground. Needless to say, I watched the timer went time out and the drop got taken by another player. So pissed. But don't get me wrong. That guy or others around the item deserve getting it, but I found it a little weird to have my name on it even it's very clear I couldn't get there on time.
I believe that loot should be the reward for fighting and not a penalty for playing coop, It hinders the game so that people are more concerned about loot than they are about working together, causing ninjas to get more loot and moments later shout it on the trade channel.

I live where we constantly have high latency and due to this I have been forced to play single player just to get some currency, cause whenever I party by the item I click on the item its gone. I believe that individual loot is an advancement to the genre and in between cut-throat and accessibility, this should be the point to draw the line.

My suggestions would be increasing loot time to around 5 sec and individualizing currency drops.

It's not an "in-between" change. It is an extreme change.

As far as I see it, the party members are in a party for:
1. monster killing
2. take the reward of 1 which is loot.
If not 1 then not 2 either.

The loot on the ground is not your loot
Fair point. It's 'the party''s loot. Yet, during the time it has my name on it, it's mine. The loot system decided that I was the only one supposed to be able to have it.

Whether you are for FFA or not, this is the one misconception that needs to be addressed. The timer does NOT mean you are supposed to have the item. The timer is there to give you a fair CHANCE to loot the item due to your ping or range from it. It does not mean you are the one that is supposed to end up with said item. So, in fact, the current philosophy of the loot system is that everyone should have a fair chance at any drop, even people that DO NOT have their name on the item when it first appears. This is the system the developers currently have in place. You may not agree with it, that's fine, this thread is here to discuss such things. But please understand that, currently, the loot system in place is a FFA system with accessibility, not a system that decides who should have certain items.
I'm new to this type of game and I tried multiplayer for the first time today. To put it simply: FFA loot while playing with strangers is not fun. Yes, its fun when you get someone elses yellows but putting in the effort to watch for good items that drop is distracting. Sorry if I'm not ~Xtreem~ enough for this game.

That's cool in theory, but in reality for those who don't come to forums and just play the game, the overall opinion is going to be "It had my name on it, it was mine".

That's a reality that some Pro-FFA people are going to have to realize. To the average regular joe game player, name = own.
This is confusing.

I found 2 posts from the same diamond alpha member Elynole:

This one is from a thread about someone that got muted for ninjalooting (stole an Alch Orb).
Heres his/her/its description of what they did:

but thats what happend. Only thing I said was something like:
me:"thanks for the alch"
someone else:"I have enough of people like him, stealing all the stuff. lets kick him out"
me:"all I did was playing the game the way it was intended. do what you want guys."

Like I said, I never insulted anyone. All I did was picking up that alch, Iam still speechless.

Iam sure a mod can look up which GM muted me and ask him aswell.

And heres Elynole's response:

I doubt you got muted for your looting. I would PM Support - This request would go directly to a developer to review the issue.

You shouldn't be getting muted for picking up loot, this is something that is not only allowed but encouraged by the developers for it's shared loot and competitive edge.

And this one when a player lost out on loot due to being kicked out of party because of a design flaw (Max 6 players in each instance and the public party filled up when the player in question refilled flasks in town in the middle of a Vaal 6 player fight):

Once again reminding myself to never pug, in which case I haven't done since oh....never...in my gaming career.

.......
So Elynole thinks cutthroat is the goal of this game, but never plays in public parties at all and only plays in *safe parties with friends*?
Im confused.
Maybe Elynole is just being factual... still it gives me weird signals when i read those 2 posts back to back.
