Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

I too dislike the FFA system with reasons already voiced out by many. Sooner or later there will be programs/bots/mod to autoloot, by then GGG will have to spend more (unnecessary) time/effort to combat this issues.

Generally the more vocal party in a dispute is a minority under these circumstances. Why? Well you only tend to speak out when there is something you don't like. So with this in mind it would seem that more people are enjoying the current system (And staying silent/playing the damn game) then there are those complaining about it.

There are a few of us here sticking up for the current system and a few against the system, the few against the system may post more often but is generally just the same people over and over trying to make the issue appear bigger then it really is just to get there way.

So if a group is vocal that makes them the minority? That makes Zero sense.

It really does make alot of sense when you actually think about it.

Nicholas_Steel actually nails it.

I think there is absolutely a strong argument for the FFA loot system. Like Chris said, it encourages a more cut-throat environment. I understand that people feel that it can be unfair, but i think that FFA fits this game very well. The current system is a good comprimise, gives people a chance to grab things without completely destroying the FFA system.

Maybe group options could be added later for those who want loot assigned? You could just add an option to take the timer off so that items are assigned as long as they remain on the ground. It could work something like this: upon forming a group, a vote could pop up with a few options such as "complete FFA loot", "Timed assigned loot" and "Assigned Loot". Just spitballing ideas for those who dislike FFA, personally i like it.

2 points which made me playing solo only now

1) you kill the boss and get your loot, it should depend on playing well IN the bossfight, showing reaction and a little skill, NOT after the bossfight against 5 people, thats nonsene in my eyes

2) a lot of timesink, caused of people standing stupid around and waiting for others loot, seen in every group i joined

in fact i cant follow your pros, stressing up while running stupid around infight for getting all the loot (and if you dont, youre getting nothing!)

the soul of the game isnt the ffa system, the soul is grinding items to improve your chars, and the ffa works against, im not gonna support this if its the same at release, for solo i can play scyrim or whatever and multiplayer now is broken in my eyes(edith means: maybe ill try to create groups my own with "only self loot" or something like this, but i dont think this works when the fist legendary drops, lets see xP)

mfg

I think i see your point, people standing around waiting for loot and not fighting is def an issue... one that is unfortunate. While that says a lot about the person playing that char (and none of it good) it may need to be addressed.

Again, i feel that the current system with the timers is quite fair, but if you think that is still not enough, I am sure more additions could be made. If you read all of my post, i stated that the party should be able to vote on the loot rules, something that has been suggested about a hundred times and would likely fix most of the issues (IMHO).

As for the boss fights, it is difficult to implement a system for splitting loot according to who "fought well". What about the tank who took all that damage but didn't do much since he is speced for one hander and shield? What about the guy with 15 auras who took down all the trash for you but didn't damage the boss? No, i think the best solution is to give the party power to choose loot options, but if you have a better idea you should share.

I am not sure when this movement against FFA loot happened. It worked well in D2 and in other games, sure sometimes you rage because you didn't get that sick drop, that other A-hole did, but w/e, its a game and you can always grind more. I like the intensity that FFA loot gives the game, but i can understand you wanting loot to be shared accordingly. So would the party choice idea make you happy or do you want something else?

well, you got it, let the people chosse themselves lootoptions and everybody is happy, makes no sense saying "it destroys the gamefeeling" for those who want lootoptions oO

nonsene, the most people take it as it is and do not ever post in a forum only one fucking word

there must be quiet big shit in that they raise their voice, like now

Sure it does. Why should a game cater to what you want?

You already have loot options.. Play alone or play with like minded players.

I think Zul has some valid points (and others). There is no reason not to put in loot options for the party. That way everyone can play the way they want to play. GGG could easily make the party search have the option to join a FFA loot party, an assigned party, or other choices. I think its an excellent compromise.

And i like FFA, but like i said, no reason we can't compromise and offer options.

No... :D

Vooodu has two points which are valid and need to be address by the GREENs.
(Hooray, new leaf Vooodu?)

1) People are more likely to complain than praise. This is an over-studied subject from the service industry. There is a distinct likelihood that there are a number of satisfied players who are not present here, leaving us with a thread skewed GREEN over RED where the general game populace may have more RED in it than my recount numbers have/will show. How do we eliminate this skew to know scientifically which side is in the majority?
2) Controlling your party gives you an aspect of control over how looting is done since you can shorten the negative impact of others by shortening their presence with a kick. How is this option unsatisfactory?

Ok..:D

I never hold a hold a grudge.

Despite my hard headed stance on FFA loot im still the kind of guy who would give anyone any drop as long as they ask nicely for it.
