PoE 1 PC servers are restarting in: .
They should be back up in approximately .Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
You party for loot and advancing faster, not to hold hands and frolic. Try playing it with your friends as the "snooze.you lose" game that it is meant to be. I do it with my friends, unless a weapon or armor drops that's an upgrade for them its no holds barred. Which actually adds more fun. Anyone remember playing halo deathmatch? Someone loses but you both had fun and keep it moving, Same concept here. Quit trying to assign stuff, it just makes you frusterated when people don't follow it. Also if you're dying because your tanks rush for loot maybe don't play a glass cannon or a build that relies on help?
Also if Casual means "Doesn't play often", then my wife and I have "Casual Sex". =( |

" What you don't understand is the fact that the risk of partying (more people) should be the ten-fold increase of monster's toughness/fight/ai, not the loot system. |

" Why should I have a sense of fair play when the game doesn't want me to in the first place? The meta-game promotes and wants to be selfish, why should I be fair?[/quote] |

" Generally speaking, you can have fun only in win-win type of situation. In a win-lose situation, the lose part will have frustration, not fun. |

First i didnt really care as much about the loot timers but that was before i actually got to play.
Now i've played a bit with some strangers and its really a race to get to the loot, and even i got a bit annoyed when they took MY loot and im left empty handed. I know its a beta but its the idea that counts. Thats the only thing thats a big big turn off about this game. Apart from that, its really amazing. |

Playing a shadow elemental bow, mostly nuking stuff from range, and of course, while I'm doing the damage, the other 5 were running around picking items up.
I get a 1-2sec timer to pick up items that are half or a full screen away, but when I'm still trying to kill the remaining 15 mobs instead of looting, the timers mean nothing. Killing a boss? Near the end? Well, let's all just stop being useful and wait to be the quickest finger. Seriously? Is that what you're hoping to get out of your game? Annoyed, griefed, and nervous players who can't even enjoy the killing without having to keep an eye on every other party member and every single drop every single second of the game. I read what you actually expect to get out of your loot system, but honestly, I must admit the current loot system is a huge turnoff. Kept me soloing after giving 1 party a try. Never again. |

The timer was a good idea, but it's too short somehow.
Perhaps there can be an option for parties to have individual loot? I mean, not everyone would be happy about strangers stealing the stuff they want. |

Just adding my humble voice to the chorus of people regretting that design choice.
I respect their decision to stick to it, and will keep on playing regardless. But I will never join a public game with strangers (and I know most of my friends never will either). As I view it, the only thing that loot system does, is introduce a form of PvP where it was not wanted. People are arguing over whether the timer is sufficient for ranged classes. Well, in a group, most of the time items will simply drop out of my LoS as people start scattering all over the place (that is, almost all the time). The timer duration is of litterally no consequence when I don't even get the chance to see something has dropped. It's a remnant from Diablo II I personnally don't understand (the will to make the experience more "oldschool"? Not everything in oldschool philosophy was worth keeping). As I remember it in D2, people would group in public games despite the poor loot system to increase farming efficiency. As was previously mentionned, as soon as one could do the run reasonnably quickly on their own, one would immediately start doing so in a single-player passworded game instead of grouping with leachers. It's my understanding they wanted to make sure the game holds your attention to the max. Well, in my opinion, the best way to do so is through the fine tuning of difficulty and mob scaling. This is an "easy path" and the only result is reducing drastically the amount of players willing to cooperate in this game. Just wanted to let it out, promised it'll be the only time, because other than that minor gripe I'm having a blast! :) |

" Actually he/she/it is serious. Some of the newer gamers only play games with win-win scenarious. Its a choice of game style that companies provide in some games (for example Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3). I think it originates from wanting to play games without feeling stressed out or annoyed. And only have fun and relax. And FFA loot does make many people stressed and annoyed thus its a win-loose situation and then players will avoid public parties and only play solo or with trusted friends. This is very harmful to a community. |
