I can understand not wanting to let noobs make to many mistakes, but doing this at the expense of killing off weird builds, that from the start go in the reverse direction is almost a reason to pack up on the game for me.

And I mean this is cutting it close to ruining the openess I and others were enjoying....Like if you keep killing the creativity of the players straight off the bat then you are killing the way I and others enjoy the game, and you have gotten so many compliments for being so open in the beginning how it is, that I dont even really get why you would do this... Except to make things linear for (Swallowing deeply) mainstream diablo 3 players.

I am not happy about having to say this....

So I call "dick move".

And tbh you could have just put "pop-up warning's" on the skills in that direction to let newcommers know not to go that way or atleast warn them.

Educating players is better than regulating players.

Thumbs down.......

Apologies for the D-word but it's how I feel.

How about GGG re-add in the 'other direction' and make it that you'll have to reach level 15 or 20 for it to 'unlock'.
That way it can help stop newbies from making early mistakes.

Classes look much more "defined" now and it seems like it'll be slightly harder to jump around the tree overall. Obviously just speculation though. I don't like how options were removed at the start. A big draw of PoE (for me at least) is that this is a game that is very much NOT dumbed down in a world where the dumbed-down appeals-to-all game is king. Removing choice is very, very rarely ever a 'good thing.'

In fact, in an attempt to sell one of my friends on the game (who quit D3 but is a bit too fed up to go to PoE) I've been telling him that one of the great things about this game is that you can totally break your character if you're an idiot. It's not even hard. Pick up CI and EB and bam, you're broken until you respec out of one. I don't view "punishes a player for being a moron" mechanics as being bad. To the contrary, I think they're kind of essential - if the player is allowed to be an idiot and still succeed, then what's the point? (Yes I realize CI/EB is still possible, just using it to illustrate).

I honestly think if you're getting feedback from players who say "oh god, the skilldrasil is too complicated" these are the exact players that you should completely ignore. These are the players who aren't putting in an ounce of effort to actually understand your game, why should you cater to them? The tree really, really fucking simple if you just look at it for more than ten seconds without shitting a brick. Once you actually get used to it, I almost think it's too simple and could even be taken further in the other direction.

Also what's up with the class icon at the center of the tree? 7th class? Maybe an "advanced" starting point for experienced players?

edit: from the looks of it, the new tree destroys the progression of my old build. Not sure if the endgame build will still be possible without actually playing with the tree, but I definitely can't build it up like I did. I'm now forced to go down into my class's main passive section before doing anything else, which is not what I did with my build.

Center part of the tree looks like place to a new class who may come in 6 different direction, and may easily become caster or bowman or melee warrior.
Maybe if this new class may choose any one from 6 current characters models, it will be perfect for customisation players character, who wanna go far away from base class specialization.
Starting position "Amnesia", where characters forget their path and beginning from the central point.

But this is just my mind, maybe this is preparing for later expansions.

Big problem about new skill tree if i wanna create caster duelist now i will just have some dex and str passive skills and they may help me use some gems, so i not lose skill points...but in new one i will lose one skill points to worthless (Worthless to caster ofc.) atack speed or melee dmg passive. One skill point but already some sad feeling.

Don't get too heated about this, guys. It's certainly not the first time the tree has undergone a major change. At the risk of being the broken record, please keep in mind that this is beta.

It was specifically stated in the video that the devs took care to design this so that odd or cross-class builds will still be possible, although they obviously won't be the exact same. Some builds will undoubtedly be broken, but that's part of the process. Play with the new tree and give quality feedback on what made the old one better than this one for your build.

Don't jump the gun and condemn it before you've even had a chance to get a good look at it.

We can see what it will do =D I am sure they worked very hard on it.

But does the majority of the community want this kind of change? or does GGG?.... Thats the real question.

Sounds good to me. I'll have to wait until I can see the actual tree before I form an opinion on this though. The design philosophy is understandable and it seems like this could work out but it depends on the implementation.
