OK so leveling is over lol
" You can get to level 100 by playing tier 1 maps. You might even be able to stay in the interludes. It just takes a loooooong time. But you can absolutely park your character somewhere easy and kill things for as long as you want. SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter.

" Im not for or against XP penalty personally, i basically have feelings towards it, but you forget one thing here. POE2 isnt really a skill based game. Well building a build is kind of a skill, but if we talk about skill we mostly talk about skill while actually playing and not theorycrafting. So when you die in maps its mostly not your personal skill its either a build issue which can be fixed by using a guide. Or its simply a gear issue. XP Penalty does not make any sense in POE2, it has no purpose. Deaths would be punishing even without it. People who want to level to 100 will do it eventually. XP Penalty or not. The supposed purpose of an XP Penalty is to make deaths punishing. But then we dont lose exp anymore when fighting pinnacles. You can mostly remove the negatives of dying with an omen of amelioration until around level 97. Before that level you gain so much EXP that the exp you lose with an omen is basically just one map. Also if you can reach level 97 you dont reaslly need more levels. The last 3 skill points wont make a difference. And now you can die as much as you want. The only reason you level to 100 is prestige of having a level 100 character. And if you want that you can simply change your build so youre mostly immortal by stacking energy shield. Every class can do that. That way you dont die. Which makes exp penalty obsolete. Álso i think complaining about EXP penalty because you die to foten and level because of that, then i dont know what to tell you. Follow a guide. “The bird of Hermes is my name, eating my wings to make me tame.” Last edited by Alzucard#2422 on Nov 8, 2025, 2:53:27 PM

Death is fine, but I liked in other games when you died, you had a gravestone and could get some xp back

" If you'd like to understand how incorrect you are, watch Ben play for 30 minutes, especially at league start. SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. The xp loss mechanic is unfortunately a complete failure at game design. The only reason it is even in the game is because it was in D2. So you have to suffer throught it, because the sacred cow had it. Like so many things in this game it exists because of nostalgia.
If you have a decent level of skill you won't even notice it's existence until lvl90 or so. With the Omen of Amelioration this is pushed up lvl93/94. If it's supposed to stop glass cannons it fails because a strong offense and screenclearing with a bunch of deaths makes you still level a lot faster than slow methodical gameplay without dying. By the point the number of deaths become a problem from an xp loss standpoint you'll have effectively solved the game. So what are most people doing? They stop caring about leveling any further because the xp loss becomes overbearing. Once more it fails at incentivizing slow methodical play but instead incentivizes people to not engage with the gameplay mechanic of leveling anymore. The only ones truly effected by it is people who want to max level their character. The amount of grind in Poe2 becomes absurd on the last 3-4 levels - even without xp loss this requires an insane dedication. Like hundreds of hours. But at this point there is nothing to learn anymore. The character has optimized gear, you do the hardest content. Even with Omen of Amelioration you will get punished severly for every death. And that's effectively the only thing that xp loss achieves in this game: Punish your most dedicated players for engaging with the sole core game mechanics that grants you a feeling of progress in ultra late game. |

" This has never been the case for PoE, regardless of the intent. When you die in PoE VERY FEW players reaction is "Ok how do I defend against X and get better." Its "Wait, I died? How?" because you have no info to tell you how you died thus on how to get better. Then players realize they not only died they lost exp, and it turns into a you got conned type feeling for new players. They spent all this time to enjoy one game to be hit with punishing mechanics out of nowhere, similar to korean MMOs. It has and will always be a detriment to the game that discourages people from playing, it doesn't make the game feel hard or challenging. Its one of the things that makes the game feel indie studio over triple-A. Ultimately its just a reason people quit the game, No manner of idealistic projection is going to change that fact. |

" Yes! Very good observation. You get punished without being told what you go punished for or how you can avoid the punishment in the future. That's just cruelty. Punishment for punishment's sake. |

honestly it would feel better if you were limited to 10% XP loss PER map. not death. I know i have gone on some XP loss bangers before haha
