Another agreement here. It's just so powerful that it feels necessary, which degrades item viability (looking at you, Movement Speed).
Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

i play ED and it absolutely needs all the extra gem levels to be on the same level as some of the other skills
I'm also running an ED build this league and I agree. Even with as much investment as I have into gear, pinnacle boss fights still take a very long time even with all the +level modifiers I'm stacking. Non-ED builds are having a much easier time by comparison, so losing +levels would almost make ED borderline non-viable.
And this doesn't even touch on timed encounters where damage is essential.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

Disagree. Having high levels of skills also requires mana management which changes either your Spirit usage or talents or sacrifice damage to reduce mana costs etc.
However i can agree nerf them on amulet and quivers because 2Handers are 2Handers.

We can mostly agree that the balance following Patch 0.3.0 is not in a good spot. One of the largest contributing factors is the insane gem levels found on gear and needs to be toned way down. Another unfortunate side effect of gear having insane gem levels is it invalidates the vast majority of uniques and also makes crafting one-dimensional as items without gem levels is mostly invalidated. This nerf tones down the baseline power of players, which is healthy for the game as it lacks challenge. With that said, I urge GGG to nerf max gem levels found on gear as follows:
* 2H-Mace, Crossbow, Staff, QStaff: Decrease to +5 Max Gem Levels (down from +7)
* 1H-Mace, Bow, Wand: Decrease to +3 Max Gem Levels (down from +5)
* Amulet: Decrease to +2 Max Gem Levels (down from +3)
* Quiver: Decrease to +1 Max Gem Levels (down from +2)
* Gloves: Decrease to +1 Max Gem Levels (down from +2)
If the game is too easy in good gear, it's too easy, period.
The game shouldn't just suddenly fall over because you have good gear.
Other RPG's do not work this way, it is a failure only this genre has.

I play ED and it doesn't need anything, because literally no mob can hit me besides the abyss ones that can attack while moving.
I can go multiple maps without taking a single point of damage, that's not ok.

what do your defenses have to do with gem levels? gem levels give damage, nothing to do with not getting hit so what are you even talking about? maybe you like to run around in the boss arena for 10 minutes in circles while not getting hit but some of us want to do actual damage and kill things in a timely manner so extra gem levels are needed for dot skills like ED

+1
It'd enable more mods on items to be viable.
Agreed, crafting feels one-dimensional with items with gem levels as the only relevant items.
Kinda sad state for crafting.
How so? If +levels is already too strong, doing what OP said dosent remove them. Just lowers the +levels max on the item. The need/want for it would still be there. It would enable nothing new. If anything, it would force even tighter rolls on flat damage being needed. So instead of just +levels and some other stats and you being able to improve with it, now you need the same +levels requirement but now added flat damage requirement to get the same result.
If anything, just nerfing the levels and no other changes, you took away viability on other mods.

Except it's not a choice because you're not sacrificing anything. Even going out of your way and pathing to mana nodes for mana regen, jewel for mana regen or mana on kill, efficiency 2 on skill instead of something else, it's still always worth it
There's nothing in the game that comes even close to how much damage + skill gives

You really should work on your reading-comprehension.
He's talking about killing stuff, before it can touch him.
Literally not that hard to understand.
