Five Weeks into 0.2.0, POE2 is Down 93.2% Players All Time & 83.9% from Patch Launch

A couple of days ago someone mentioned on a thread that they are farming the whales.

Ggg is 100% owned bt tencent and tencent own clash of clans which is the best and most expensive gotcha whale farm on the market.

Tencent are the best in the business for gotcha exploits. And I really agree with the guy from the post.

To think that tencent have no money grab/ whale farming intentions is very nieve as they are literally very experienced at this type of behavior and are very good at it.

Tencent are 100% owners of this game so forget how you feel ggg would have acted a few years ago. A different kind of beast is leading the meat train now.

If they are whale farming they wont care about the player count as long as the whales are still here.

We play a game that is made for a market with a total different view on value in a video game.
Now with my view of fun they cant make money.
1. Your using the peak player numbers from the release and the start of the league for what excactly? To draw some kind of picture where the situation is so dire that you "must be correct". I dont get it.

The start of the league will always have lots more players, and then it will drop down more and more. Especially in this case where the game is in early access and missing alot of end game content.

Its also well known that this "league" was poorly received and had alot of problems, both server problems, bugs, untested things, aswell as others.
And even tho some of those problems are fixed theres alot of people that didnt like it and will just wait for the next patch.

2. All your "points" are basically just you being upset because they didnt keep everything exactly like in poe1. You want the same combat, same mapping system, same endgame mechanics, same crafting system, same maps, same passive tree, etc.

At that point there would be no point in making poe2 at all if it should just be an exact copy. The whole point is to try and make something thats new and different.

Not everything isnt perfect, there is alot of things missing, some decisions are probably just bad. But thats why its in ea so they can test different systems.
I would sign under every word the OP said.

The VISION™ is the death of PoE.

Watch how its online goes down and soon will be even less than, for example, 20+ year old game like Eve Online has any day of the week.. including botters and rmtrs lol

Me personally - I lost all hope. They messed it up so bad that I don't think PoE2 will recover. They should scrap it and just continue with PoE1 while giving it a big visual update. And somehow lure Chris Wilson back.

This ridiculous loot patch was the last drop. I just went and gave Last Epoch a try and know what, that game has a lot of potential. It's not afraid to give player power, the endgame is quite deep too although it could use more content, but it does remind me of how PoE1 was in the beginning - the new stuff comes out with more new leagues and stays in the game. So far they had only 2 seasons/leagues.. what matters the most is the feel of the game itself. As CuteDog said it - skills there feel like World of Warcraft "jump" - if you know you know. After playing some LE, coming back into PoE2 feels like downgrading from Diablo2 to Diablo1, like yeah, they're kinda same but not really. You move like you're boiled, everything is slow motion and not in a good way. I dunno, PoE2 just doesn't feel right anymore. LE is not ideal ofc, I'd rather have it being more like PoE1 than D2/D3 which it kinda reminds more than anything, but oh well, can't have everything I guess..
And PoE2? Well, good luck to Jonathan when the fiscal year ends.
POE2 has SOO MUCH potential. I really love the core and what it could become but there are so many small game design decissions that are just baffling and that add up to a massive mess. I wonder if it's time for some outside consultation to clean the mess up.

There is lot of talk about the necessity of friction and i don't disagree with that. But there are two types of friction. The good one is things that are challenging but can be worked towards inch by inch. For instance the game loop where you have to get better gear/skills to run some content but you have to run the content to get said gear/skills. That is good.

Bad friction is everything that is just annoying from act 1 to deep in the endgame, that the player can't do much about and that's obviously just there to piss the players off, make them miserable and kill the fun.

For instance too slow movement speed, too small inventory, micro stuns, temporal chains (lmao), horrible trading mechanism, perks with downsides. Things like that. POE2 right now is absolutely littered with dozens of these things that are nonstop annoying, tedious and fun killing.

Well FYI I dunno who's a "whale" here, but I did get my PoE2 ticket for free and also my forum badges don't count all the money I spent on direct points purchases.. and even with the money I dumped into here, well, I'll now just go dump into LE I guess. Not a happy customer here if the VISION™ stays. Do masochists that were that 1% of ruthless appreciators pay more/better than all of the rest PoE1 gameplay enjoyers? Time will tell.
People buy mirrors and gear sets in rmt. And spent a fortune on dives.

If you dont believe the game is pushing rmt then you won't even be able to see the connections.

Tencent are the rmt gotcha gods of this generation. There is a reason many of the mechanics don't make sense, it's because they are no trying to achieve the thing that would logically make sense for them to do, if your view on what they are trying to achieve is correct.

Success doesn't have a specific outcome, it depends on what your trying to achieve in the first place.

Edit: look on these rmt sites. Mirrors are selling for close to 2k depending on the age of the season. And alot of people are buying them.

EU servers have been pretty much unplayable for nearly 3 weeks now...
Man this guy does nothing but stay here all day and post on how disappointed he is in the game.

I get it, they're actively killing a great game for a mediocre (for now, at least) prototype. I'm disappointed too, and i like PoE 2.
