It's all meant solely to drag out the engagement time with the endgame. When you die, you lose time, resources and even progress which can sometimes take several runs to recover from. Currently the endgame is intentionally setup to be a massive slog. Players who like a challenge and veteran players seem to enjoy this sort of thing, though there are a significant number of POE1 players that don't enjoy this grind at all.
This grind will wear down new players quickly as well, especially with how long it takes to grind your way up the map tiers. It's slow, painful and not very intuitive. In fact if you want to even be able to sustain low level maps you have to learn how to juice them up and farm the correct maps where you have better chances of getting more waystones to drop. Even then you will finish one tier and maybe have 2 of the next tier ready to go.
Not juicing your maps is a setback, dying in a juiced map is an even bigger setback. The endgame is so unforgiving with your time that the only option is to not die.

You just need to be better at the game. We know absolutely nothing about your character or the map you "juiced" for all I know you put in a map with -15 max res, monster extra damage and monster penetrated 30 res and now you're here complaining that you died because your level 90 has 2k life
You can't run waystones like that? Git gud. I run around bare-fisted in my underwear and tbag that sorry crow with my bells.

I think they're adding beams on citadels. Might alleviate the whole, "OMG! I so bored. Nothing to desu!"

Can we please stop with comparing permanent loss (HC) to temporal loss (SC)? It's getting quite old by now.

Because you can't lose a map in HC.

But this character has no longer access to HC stash and other stuff. You can't grind your way back to HC. But you can grind back XP lost upon death in SC.

I like 1 death on maps a lot. It makes me do risk balancing, which is fun for me, without the "all in" risk of HC.
