It's 2025, and XP Penalties on Death Still Exist?
" Forget about it. |

" Nope, we the players will keep giving feedback during EA because this is the best time for it. And its a time when big changes can happen in a game, it's time for GGG to move on and drop these ancient mechanics that were supposed to be left forgotten 20 years ago. The demand is so high and so many people will quit/are quitting over these death penalties, something has to be done. |

" I love how everyone telling you they won't remove it has played PoE1 for years, bought stuff in the shops, fully accepted it as part of the game. And along you come, saying "It's gonna have to (change)..." Do you also walk into random stores and just scream, "WHY ARE YOU ALL SHOPPING HERE!? I DON'T LIKE IT HERE! STOP IT, YOU'RE RUINING MY LIFE," or is specific to this game? As an even more similar analogy (because it's free to walk into a store), imagine buying a ticket for a concert, they don't play the one song YOU went for, so you start yelling and screaming at everyone for enjoying themselves. That's psychotic entitlement right there, and holy Karen are you good at it. Last edited by Redthorne82#3177 on Jan 2, 2025, 9:15:31 AM

1% xp loss sounds a million times better than what they have now. Im level 93 and deaths set me back hours.

" Yes, we do. |

" Really? It takes hours to get that one map back? Hours to get all the gear you lost? Hours to reclaim all those passive points you lost. Exactly how did anything about your build get worse by dying exactly? The point of exp loss is to let you know you're lacking something so you can grind/farm for it or buy it, figure something out, to keep progressing. With no barrier, there's no need for any of the dopamine hits the game gives you. Last edited by Redthorne82#3177 on Jan 2, 2025, 9:18:59 AM

" PoE 1 became a successful game despite the exp loss, not because of it. It having this mechanic is just a funny little coincidence. Almost all the Softcore players hate this mechanic, the devs just decided to leave it in the game for no reason. If we were given the option to turn it off in the settings, 99% of people would. This alone is proof that its bad game design lmao |

XP loss on death is totally fine.
I think the problem is that many deaths in this game are unfair, like random untelegraphed effects on the ground or corpse explosions. If the player thinks "yeah I died because of my own stupidity, I clearly saw this coming and did not dodge" then noone would complain about the death penalties. |

" Sounds like you'd be happy playing Path of Exile. This is a different game, with a different design philosophy. Player skill should matter. The XP penalty makes players risk-averse and prevents the devs from designing challenging content. |

" Agreed and hopefully it stays |
