XP Loss, a division for no reason.

Instead of having productive feedback ( which also exists, I want to be as fair as possible ) I think that a big part at the moment of the community ( old and new people ) is stuck on a "loop" trying to "fight" for their side on countless posts regarding the same "problem".
Some with very well articulated replies and points for their "side", some with their typical troll style which is fine as well. Well here's another one for you that I've rarely seen and in most cases it will just fly by without any attention as everyone is "fixated" that they are "correct" for their side of things and can't look past their nose. Maybe this will catch your eye. I'm nowhere near a designer so my humble paint did the trick for all the people that just do better with visuals ( even if they are crappy visuals ) in case you can agree on something and stop all the bickering as the reality stands somewhere in the middle and everyone can be happy [ in my opinion ]. ![]() It's that simple. If GGG likes it and wants to do it to cater to the more casual players that don't like the current penalty system so be it. It doesn't harm anyone to go this route, it's practically [ in my opinion ] better from every aspect, from player retention to bigger audience to even more money at the end of the day. Whoever says otherwise, well I can't help you any further, lost causes are lost causes, can't do much about it. The solution can be not "moving" anyone over to any side, it's keeping everybody where they should be and happy playing their own "version" of the game :). Similar to how Hardcore always existed along with a "casual" version, we just might be in the need of an extra here. PoE 2 is supposed to move forward after all so why not? The softcore base can enjoy their countless runs without any xp penalties for example ( or maybe even retry a boss instantly, who cares right? ). The standard base are, well, what we're playing now. The hardcore base is the usual folks that we all know and respect no matter what. If not, well the kings have spoken. Going on each others throats in some cases to extremes as well ( thankfully the shadowy figures of Support step in ), isn't really productive work though, nor helping GGG in terms of "ea feedback" which in theory we're all here to do at the moment. I suppose we can agree to that at least whenever you calm down. But hey what do I know, I want this because I don't want to learn. Nope, I'll be playing "standard" as I am doing now, I do like a bit of a slap in terms of "no, you can do better" but I'm not really built for Hardcore either as I'd most likely punch my screen at some point, so somewhere in the middle is the right spot for me. So please everyone, do feel free to be "against" me as I'm sitting in the middle and continue biting each others nails as well, I consider it healthy no matter what and I'll admit it has it's funny moments also. Trolls are welcomed as well by all means, as long as you can stay within a reasonable margin of offensive language. Good luck to your "side" whatever the outcome might be. --- Edit: I forgot to mention, the title refers to the community not the game, and I don't consider the division wrong per se, but more of sub-optimal at this point in time. +1
I agree with you. There's no need for the amount of bickering if there just options available to suit everyone. The fighting comes from when some people demand their preference be the only one available. |

It would be nice is GGG could make a 3rd category for characters, but it further divides the player base. From what I recall, this creates a variety of problems for the game.

OH I have a lot of arguments, I'm just tired of repeating them to every single sycophant who wants to turn this franchise into mush, like they have done with every single fucking previous one.
If you want easy games and instant gratification, there are many games for out of there, go fucking play those instead of trying to ruin another one with your whining. |

I would play softcore if it was an option. When I lose 10% exp on 90+ level in PoE(1 or 2) something dies inside of me.
" What if we want quality in our games that diablo trash or newbies like LE cannot give? What you will lose if all noobs will leave? You will not play with them anyway, they never saw more than 10 divs in stash in their whole life. Last edited by fireismylife#2041 on Jan 1, 2025, 2:14:04 AM

The reason is getting to 100 should be a feat, not a freebie.
Stay classy Step 1 is to self reflect.

There's many ways to solve this. Giving everyone the option to play the way they want is probably the best.
However, people will say 'but it splits the playerbase'. And they're correct, it does. But the issue is that the playerbase being split is only an issue because of the forced economy in the game. This is what's stopping this game from more mainstream appeal. That the balance of this game is based around an economy. Rather than player enjoyment :) I'd also suggest adding in a mechanic as a bonus, not a punishment, where if you do well, you get bonus xp, or bonus loot. Would serve the same function as XP loss, getting players to stop and think and work on their builds, but for something good, rather than losing 5 hours of gametime. " Absolutely! I love mechanics that challenge players. We should remove XP loss on death and replace it with some challenging mechanics, ones that reward players and give them good enjoyment in the game. Totally agree with you. We need less time-waste and frustration in the game, and more ways for players to be able to have skill expression. The current way they do it, it's largely a freebie. Anyone with enough time can hit level 100, it's not hard to do. Last edited by Akedomo#3573 on Jan 1, 2025, 2:33:18 AM

" Sir, you're being rabid over something you'd nigh instantly forget even existed if it was removed. Last edited by mrfox123#7595 on Jan 1, 2025, 2:33:14 AM

People still dont understand that its not about catering to casuals or hardcore players with this simple design decision.
This whole game is designed about risk vs reward, period. this will never change because its a core thing about everything in it and the game is balanced around it. Every system, every mechanic is about to overcome harder and harder getting walls in order to progress and being rewarded for it. thats the nature of the game. and with this design, the loot is also balanced. right now player power by level is somewhat balanced (in poe1 better, in poe2 worse atm, will change). people can do lvl 100, but its a grind and kinda hard to achieve. build guides are mostly capped around 90 to 94 in order to fit that. and player power in ggg's eyes is balanced in mind players will mostly reach that point of lvl 90. if you delete the wall to lvl 100, the game will be balanced around players getting to 100. that means, player power would be nerfed baseline for everybody to meet that new baseline of player level. same as bosses or mechanics. they stated clearly as an example, they can do make bosses more rewarding, because they are rare, hard, and not every map has a boss. if there was a boss on every single map instead of 1/4 of maps, they would simple drop only 1/4 of the loot. if you could redo bosses or mechanics as often as you want in order to "not fail" them, they would simply be nerfed massively in rewards in order to balance in that failure isnt possible anymore. in return for taking out the risk, you would again have massive nerfs in rewards. so tell me, who would love to play a auto win grinding game without good rewards to do? who would want to achieve lvl 100 if its meaningless because everyone and his mom is also lvl 100? who would love to fight rly hard and challenging bosses as many times as you want in a row without failing to get some nerfed loot? if you take out the grind and the risk, you take out the rewards. and nobody wants an unrewarding game. |
