An Option to One Portal per map/death we can all live with
|
+1000 to saving portals after death. One misclick and you lost bunch of orbs and all map event. Only 'drop' you get - frustration. And that after acts with checkpoints.

I can appreciate the efforts by GGG to try and make mapping more engaging; however, I feel the current one death per node / waystone is too punishing for casual players.
Casual doesn't mean you will never make it to endgame maps; it just means you will most likely take 'x' times longer to get there, but once there, the one death per node / waystone is too punishing. I also understand that '6 portals, 6 deaths' allowed glass cannon builds to rule the economy in PoE 1 mapping and promoted an attrition play style. This is why I propose the following: - map nodes never get locked out - map nodes are always '6 portals, 6 deaths' - Map mechanics are always '1 attempt' limited: - After the first attempt, the mechanic is removed from the node. - This means you get one attempt per node to complete a boss, breach, etc - Promotes infinite mapping and waystone churn with minimal punishment - At level 70 (tier 6+ waystones), every death removes a random beneficial waystone attribute - Solves the attrition play style ruling the map economy - After level 90, players take an experience penalty on death |

I would do something like this:
You can choose 3 ways the machine works. 3 portals > normal loot 2 portals > +40% Magic Find 1 portal > +80% magic find Also cap magic find to 250% or 300%. |

" ..mf on a map is fine and I like it a lot. Mf on gear needs to be removed. IMO gearing = getting stronger and not getting more loot/currency |

If we think that this game got some "soulslike" style, they could do a couple of things to still keep the game challenging but also more forgiving.
the first thing I think about is to give 1 more map entry after death. if you get killed, you can reenter the map 1 time only. and they could add something like our "remnants" like in a souls game.. where we can "recover" our xp lost (with that we get 2 birds with 1 stone, xp penalty being more forgiving and portals). in the campaign the map and boss resets after our deaths, that can still remain.. we could lose things like breach, delirium, etc from the map.. but the monsters and bosses reset so we have to face them again if we want to recover our xp (to be, still, a little more punishing they can make it a way that we recover half xp we lost, 5%) Then I think about the revive mechanic introduced.. It doesn't make sense something like that to be added to the game but unusable in the endgame, the most important part of PoE. We should be able to revive a fellow ally before the map finishes (1 revive/ally.. of course, as long as he is dead.. he is not going to get xp and if we complete the map before we revive him.. he lost the 10%xp. Those mechanics, like revive and boss resetting should be appear in the endgame. |
