Melee issues: River Hags and more

"
Every single complaint a person could have about the game can boil down to git gud depending on the person. You could be the most patient masochistic individual and think that every mob should take 10 minutes to kill and do 1 map a day and tell everyone else they're trash. Wouldn't make it an objective truth for all.

The problem as indicated here is not that they're impossible to do, but if you are a ranged character you may not even see the mob or know the mechanic exists in the first place for quite a while. Then the question is why is there such a desparity in punishing mechanics.

Okay dude. They dont take 10 minutes to kill though. What even is this hyperbole.

Its like ... you just wait to see the ball and then move in. We are talking like sub 5 seconds here.

And thats only when there are multiple of them or some odd tangibility ones(which range would have to move in as well)

So there isnt this chasm of disparity that you frame between range and melee. Its a very subtle and barely noticable difference in the grand scheme of things.

Thats not to say there isnt some tuning on ranged characters that will be happening not just in damage to come. As well as some tuning on melee.
Mash the clean
Dude, i literally deleted the game for 1 week after I encountering those bitches (hag rivers).

Stop comparing yourself to ranged...there is your first problem.

Melee will always be different than range and have different mechanics that effect them.

and yes...99% of the complaints boil down to people just are not good at the game so you are right there. I would say out of the complaints...90% of them are people from POE 1 who never learned mechanical or skill based gameplay and just followed build guides.
People really don't seem to understand the problem he's talking about. The problem isn't that he's willingly standing in the orbs and whirlpool and dying.

The problem is the fact that they can spam it every 1 second right on top of you.

So if there's more than 1 hag and you try to melee them, they spawn the orb right on you and them so now you can't even attack them. Maybe get a few hits in before the 3 second timer and then dodge? Nope it slows you down to the point you won't be able to get one single hit in.

Ok so simple workaround is to just wait for the orb to expire and go right back in? Nope they can spam it one after the other chaining the orb with the whirlpool.

It's not annoying because you're dying to the orbs. The annoying part is you're just a sitting duck trying to hit them for 5 minutes but can't.

Its not a problem with ranged because you can just walkaround it while doing still doing dps.

The problem is none of that is based in reality. They don't spam orbs every 1 second and to escape its pretty easy. Once you escape you go right to them and kill them...problem solved.

If you read the whole thing you'd understand that ARPG don't know how to balance for melee. Mobs always have anti-melee mechanics that barely affect range.

POE2 has like one anti ranged mechanic with Proximal Tangibility.

ARPG need to give melee the highest damage and survivability in exchange for higher risk positioning to do damage. POE2 does not give melee the right tools to play the game. All melee classes do is use some form of ranged melee ability to circumvent the flaws in the design. It feels lame.
Can I just say that to everyone saying it's EZ just walk out that I'm using stampede as my clear skill. This f@#king skill gets stuck SO often that Hags in maps are super dangerous. I agree, this instakill orb has no place in ARPGs and especially not when melee has +x seconds of extra time added to each attack. You can easily start a stampede, have the orb spawned on your head from off screen and have hasted enemies block your path if your roll isn't perfect out of it, or if it gets blocked you're dead. God help you if there is more than one Hag...

Also, to all those saying git gud or some cringey derivative: Please understand that this sort of mechanic and enemy completely stifle certain builds and playstyles and there are many more examples of melee punishers in the game like this. Ultimately this makes builds less desirable, which stifles build diversity and kills replayability. The answer shouldn't be "don't roll melee" this sort of enemy just shouldn't be in the game.

Also why isn't this world run by these Hags? They can easily dispatch every single boss in the game with their instakill orb. Haha.

I would love to see some of you guys playing games like Devil May Cry on Hard or Very Hard mode equivalent...
"the git gud" mentality going to kill the game. Honestly i am not melee and i hate drowning orbs. I couldnt imagine a more annoying game-mechanic than drowning orb for melee classes. And saying "git gud" is just stupid. Many time a game and how they put game mechanics into the game decides if a class is good enough or fun enough to progress and i bet drowning orbs are a show-stopper for most melee builds.
At the moment it seems drowning orbs are huge hindrance to melee classes and they are problematic because they are so annoying it makes people stop playing.
"the git gud" mentality will just ensure nobody going to play melee and everybody has "git gud" ranged minion build were they can auto farm the content without pressing more than a button.
People want different styles of gameplay and I think GGG PoE1 in generel havnt been very good with melee classes.
I hope they consider the possibility of either removing or reworking drowning orbs or at least give melee a way to deal with crowd control mechanics like drowning orbs.
