Game made in NZ, no NZ servers?
You could also try a server based in Singapore.

" Apparently the ping could and probably would be worse than US west coast servers. I know packets are supposed to take the shortest route which would be directly to Australia but in reality the ISP will probably decide they wants to make more money and just route to Australia via west coast anyway. Even worse, could route through Australia, parts of Asia then back to Australia. This was a big problem when I worked at Telstraclear. It's also why we need two trans atlantic cables and unfortunately it looks like the second one isn't going to be around anytime soon: http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/7226852/Fingers-crossed-over-Pacific-Fibre-cable |

" You think the ping would be worse with aussie server's? That hasnt really been the case as Ive ever seen happen with hosting MMO server's/Game Server's but "yes", its completely possible pings could worsen if someone routed the traffic back the longest direction of the cable and sent it back to the united states again and then nz or asia etc. Which would just be silly, and once again Ive never seen a private aussie hosting company screw me ping wise before so "meh". But none the less its still more cost effective that NZ servers and as has been poven many a time, aussie servers can be just as good as a local NZ one. I mean a better question here is, what are the overall hosting requirements/specifications of the PoE server's? And how much bandwidth are they looking for? Maybee if the community was told, we could ring around and crowd source some possible contacts for them. Yet other than the chat/freind system(Which I believe is the only inter-server/database connected program used with a very minimal bandwidth draw)..The game itself is(Which is causing the latency issues) stand alone and server specific as far as I can tell, the issue of inter-continential co-op is always going to be a problem as there isnt really a middle ground between euro/america/asia without someone nagging about bad pings(Unless of course you can optimise the packet usage/bandwidth to such a level that pre-dial up would work fine for everyone). Well I never really trusted those telstra clear peoplez newayz lol. In regards to the cables, there is three cables between aussie and nz. An asia-pacific cable(Privatly owned) and the southern cross cable, and the TASMAN 2 cable, But I have yet to discearn its purpose, other than it can handle 560 Mbit/s and was laid by alcatel in 1992. It also doesnt help the SPIN pacific cable system piggybacks off NZ net. http://personalpages.manchester.ac.uk/staff/m.dodge/cybergeography//atlas/alcatel_large.gif =D, really chris should answer these questions, regarding aussie servers. www.tachi203.com : For live streams, gameplay, news of me +(. GGG should really look into having an aussie server. The gaming population is huge there. D3 forum even has a special section of their forum dedicated to Aussie/NZ players (but no aussie server-dont we just hate those corporates?).
It will be a wise investment and will certainly help when POE goes open Beta imo. |

Singapore is an easy option for us because our server host has a data centre there so it would be really fast to procure and we would be able to get our existing deals there.
Last time I checked though, the routing to it was terrible. (It went to from NZ to SG via the US) It looks like the routing is a little better now from NZ, but it's still worse than to a US data centre. If someone from Australia wants to try pinging 216.12.196.114 to see what kind of ping they get, and compare it to pinging pathofexile.com that might be useful. If the ping to 216.12.196.114 is better than to pathofexile.com from Australia then we would consider getting a Singapore server. As for other NZ / AU options, we are happy to consider them, but it's likely to be once we enter open beta and have more players. There are a lot of Data centres in New Zealand willing and waiting for you and cheap as chips... they already pay for the bandwidth so having this game hosted would just be a bonus....

Hard to get servers in NZ when internet doesn't exist in The Shire. ;)

That is very interesting xEnt.
If a couple more people from Australia give me examples of better pings to that Singapore IP than to pathofexile.com I'll order a Singapore server in the next week or so. Path of Exile II - Game Director

I am from South East Asia and will definitely have better ping to Singapore. Just wanted to help by providing more data. 320ms is playable but a lot of my attacks dont register or happens too late. Tried Hardcore and all my deaths are from lag. Southeast Asia also has a good amount of playerbase.
