Let me build what I want to build

and in their other weapon slot?

Whatever weapon I’m forced to use by the skill I want to play, it doesn’t matter.
At the very least, let each skill work with a broader range of weapons, not just that exact one.

It's just a bit of a confusing take. Do you want to be able to load crossbow bolts into your mace? Do you want to sunder the ground with your wand?

Why can't I use mace skills with my quarterstaff?

I get why I can't use some of the staff abilities with a mace, but Sunder with a staff certainly makes sense.

Doesn't have the weight.

You mean the thing where you literally hit the ground so hard it shockwaves?

Yeah, no. That's not a staff thing. Nor it's a sword thing or axe thing (although I'm sure those will get their own AoE strikes with more appropriate animations).

Exactly, that’s the point—what if I wanted to?
Why limit players’ creativity by forcing them to use a specific weapon for a specific skill, when one of POE’s greatest strengths has always been encouraging experimentation?
I understand that some skills can’t logically work with certain weapons, but is seeing 300 monks using Falling Thunder with a quarterstaff really exciting? For me, not so much—but to each their own.

And let’s not bring real-world physics into a game where a warrior in 400kg armor is doing infinite dodge-rolls around a massive demon—otherwise, what are we even talking about?

You're not arguing about creativity though. You simply want the ability to grab some currently most powerful skill without changing much about your build otherwise.

A "creative" build is a monk that uses 2H maces with second weapon set and does something cool like that. A build where you have your typical monk build but also a sunder skill gem is not creative, it's "I want all the shiniest things and I cry when I can't have them all".

The apparently deliberate limitations of mechanics and the very punishing endgame will push people into really strict metas, people are going to be screwed over every time they attempt to think outside the box, and also when An extremely strong interaction is found it's going to result in people having thier builds gutted even if they weren't abusing it, just because someone else's build got a little too strong. This is going to happen on every new weapon release, and the end result will be an incredibly generic arpg with better animations.

Absolutely not.
My thought process when starting a new league always began with:
What weapon do I want to use this league? Do I want to use a sword, or maybe play a gladiator with dual axes, or whatever else I felt like playing at the time (and not because it was meta, but simply because I wanted to use that weapon).

I’d pick my weapon, and then think: what interesting compatible skills do I have available?
Now, though, you’re forced into a specific path—there’s no other way to see it.

You might think it’s just a whim, but I assure you, it’s not.

Ah right, we all know that if a game is easy there won't be metas. That's totally how it was with PoE1, how could I forget.
ya need to chill out. The game just came out and is like 30% completed lol

so basically "Why can't i play poe 2 like i play poe 1" right?

Also, with supports giving options to do things such as stun, strip armor, or the like, as well as the addition of payoff abilities and primed states, you kinda have a lot of options here.

If your complaint is "why can't i use different weapons than the ones it demands", then i would like to know how many POE1 leagues you played where you ran a power siphon mace build.
