Any advice on how to beat Geonor?
" Well, 90 DPS on the Quarterstaff Strike is the highest I have. I have a rare Long Quarterstaff that has 19% increased physical damage (11-21) and +2 to melee gem levels, so it's pretty solid, so far as I can tell. I have a magic Gothic Quarterstaff that's higher level, does 16-26 damage for 118 DPS, so I might give that one a try. " PoE2 does not have the armory up and running yet, but I did find a character planner on Maxroll: this is what I am running now (this is with the 90 DPS staff). " Yes, that is doable when he's in his pre-Putrid Wolf form, but I spend so much time running around avoiding the AoE attacks in his Putrid form that I cannot get enough hits on him to build up the Freeze bar. " I have the cold resist charm, but it only seems to give resistance if you get hit by cold, as I'm currently only at 10% Cold Resist. I guess I have to farm gear to get more cold resist? (Which would be annoying so early in the game; I expect this to be the case at end game, but, Act I?) " Thanks for the advice so far! 😊 Last edited by Rorvik#2816 on Dec 13, 2024, 5:42:38 PM

Tell you a hack - embrace dual weapons.
For this fight learn and consider the following my fellow exile: - consider grabbing a crossbow and the reason why is because at level 14 you unlock rapidshot (50 clip) + ice shards (12) clip **my personal recommendation with the monk is the ice shards because at 12 clip you know for sure you will exhaust the number of "hits" on your tempest bell. BEFORE wolf form, be like dark souls and roll behind him: - his sword moves are almost in animation so just roll once behind him as he swings and keep hitting. - just watch his sword direction - hit your combos drop down tempest bell and beam it. IN WOLF form - do not constantly panic roll (the animation becomes too slow to efficiently dodge the blood AOE + moon beams) - same tactic as human form, but more patience - how to easily dodge blood aoe = walk towards edge and then dodge as he drops, you will almost always be right at the edge and fully be out of harm - moon beams = just walk back and forth, it calls down closest to your recent spot - wolves = wherever you are count in your head 1, 2, 3 and..then dodge - he will almost miss you at the lunge I used this tactic throughout my entire playthrough as monk because those burst shots landing into the bell = faster freeze build + dps for single target or close AOE clear. My resistances were shit so don't overthink it. |

I'll quote the new players to POE 2 when existing players provide feedback on the game.

Probably better off using the trade tab to just buy a better staff. Prolly easier than a respec.
Can buy mega good early stuff for like 1 exalted orb |

I was struggling with him a little on my first character. I was missing some points and the support gem skill from other bosses i skipped.
Went back got those, worked out how to use the support skill gem, since i didn't right click to activate it.(support gem that uses spirit) scavenged armour for reference on the gem type i am talking about. I forget which boss drops it, I just looked on the map skulls. Tweaked my other gems a bit and beat him on the next try or two tries. I am still a poe noob so, did pretty good imo. Hope that helps. Like any good game, sometimes it's just a matter of a little build strategy, checking for missed points, and a little practice for reaction skills etc. Good luck hope it helps. |

What gems are you using and how are you supporting them? 90dps is abysmal at that point.

" I'm using this build, though I picked up a magic Staff that apparently will do 133 DPS with QS Strike (on account of the +1-16 Added Lighting Damage), but I haven't tried it yet... I have two spare Level 5 Uncut Ability Gems and two spare Level 1 or 2 Uncut Support Gems; any advice on what to cut? Last edited by Rorvik#2816 on Dec 13, 2024, 6:49:12 PM

Don't rely only on your basic attack. You have a lot of range and control in the other skills it suggests you use. And make sure to use your elemental attacks on the bell when you drop it, it does more as you hit it with more elemental ailments.

Roll Baby Roll. Like a Carnie looking for crumbs in the carpet at a Trap house. Especially when you're in the circle. every other action should be a roll. Break the armor. Drop trough. Show confidence. He's a Beta. Dialogue shows us this. Roll behind and tap the s@k n p33n. You're welcome~

Okay, real advice, besides the general advice of "Get better gear."
Seems like the second form is your problem area, so I'll focus up on that. I also got stuck here for a fair bit. A) Frost resist. I know I said I wasn't doing "Get better gear" but this is the one exception. Get Frost Resist. Most of his damage is frost. Boosts your survivability a ton. B) Punish windows. I beat him on a Shotgun-style Mercenary, so largely in melee range. There are two main punish windows he has. -1) When he does a frost breath, move to his side and hit him. That is generally a safe spot. -2) When he does the big circle of frost AoE, you don't want to to go way outside it. Watch the pattern of the little starbursts on the floor, and find a ring of them near his body you can get inside of. Despite the icy-looking floor, you'll be safe as long as you aren't too close to any of the little starbursts. Those will erupt into Ice Pillars that will do actual damage. Hit him while he does that. C) You need AoE, for the fog phase. Those enemies will body block the heck out of you, and 90% of the damage I took in that fight was during that phase. Falling Thunder or the Tempest Bell could work here. Do not stop moving. He attacks on regular timer in this phase so figure out the timing and dodge accordingly. Don't get body blocked. D) The little spires of light he does hurt a LOT. Don't bother trying to deal damage when he's doing that. Just focus on moving around and avoiding the spires. E) When he gets down to about 25% of his health, the spires get a blood effect that makes them do WAY more damage, and he sprinkles them into other attacks as well. Just watch where you stand cus unless your defenses are really good that can one-hit you. F) The big red circle leap thing can be avoided by running a straight line when he jumps and dodging when the circle appears. Don't change directions. Worth noting I had a move speed buff here, though. Might need to have really good dodge timing without the move speed buff. |
