Any advice on how to beat Geonor?

Cold resist on wherever you can get it on.

The other mechanics are fairly easy to avoid. The frost/fog circle just wait for him to stop talking and one second and then roll. Or I used both roll and vaulting impact. You can clear the adds occasionally with Tempest Bell. But you can also just run them around , the most important thing is to avoid the charge.

Yes it takes a bit of time. He is most vulnerable when he does his ice breath, if you get behind. And the build up to attack with the exploding frost on the ground. I used vaulting impact to move to the outside after attacking him while he built this up. At the end he will start using this blood drop with the ice missiles that drop from the ceiling. Those hurt, don't get hit by them.

I don't remember my DPS then but it was probably right around where yours was.
Tempest Bell is like a damage boost for me, I use Tempest Flurry to build the combos for it, then just pound away on the bell. You can get this out in the 2 situations I mentioned above.

Just make sure everything is magic at the least and you have all possible affixes. I do have good ES recharge and some life regen on my gear also.

As melee, get a good weapon and circle him doing your fastest attack. He’ll be stuck mostly swinging at you like this. Only run away if he puts ice on the ground and try to dodge him during the phase with adds.

If it makes you feel better act 1 was by far the hardest part of the game. I'm almost through act 6 and haven't died since act 3. It just kept getting easier after act 1, although the maps are a bit too big right now due to lack of content.

On my level 16 monk I just stood next to him and hit him with normal attack basically. Get a bit of health, some cold res, equip a cold res charm, and then just hit him until he's stunned and then he dies

So, an update: I finally managed to beat Geonor last night. Thanks to everyone for the advice.

The most useful advice that helped was being able to attack him when he's summoning the ice spikes (as there are specific areas the spikes do damage) and getting a weapon with more DPS.

GGG definitely needs to adjust the way loot and / or gold drops in the game. In my 10+ hours of Monk, I've gotten about 4 or 5 quarterstaves total, but at least three or four times as many each of bows, crossbows, wands, scepters, staves, and maces. Maybe make it so that if you are playing a particular class the gear drops are weighted a little more for the class you are playing. I ended up having to buy a quarterstaff from Renly to get more DPS.

Also, I've said this elsewhere as well, but GGG really needs to address the jankiness of collision stuttering in the game. The game's difficulty is just fine, but when players have to fight the UI to execute their moves, it's becomes very frustrating.
Sorry not going to read everyones reply, faster to just give tips.

First make sure you max cold resist. You can do that easily with 1 base cold resist ring (Rare so it gives other bonuses).

If nobody has mentioned it, but stuff from poe2 trade. You can set yourself with a full set of rares just by spending augmentation orbs.

Next, from your initial post it sounds like you didn't add 2 sockets to your staff. It's REALLY easy to get the currency to add sockets by buying weapons with them in the store in town. Do so with a new/low level character and it's much cheaper.

2 sockets gives you options to add elemental damage. Fire adds the most and I believe Geonor is weak vs fire. You CAN have 2 weapons though switching with X and ice will freeze him as well, so even if he is strong vs ice, it can be worth it to pound him a bit to freeze him then switch to the other weapon.

Evasion helps as well, especially if you are running the wind aura that gives 45% more evasion (15% a charge, and you lose charges if hit...but aslong as you have not been hit recently...45% more means it's a multiplier after all other buffs).

As a monk, ifyou get 30+ spirit on your armor (again aim for evasion and in this case eshield), you can also run the ghost aura one, that heals your eshield a % of your total evasion (making you much harder to kill with both of them going). That will make you much more tanky but does require you to have some eshield on your equipment.

1 ring should probably be cold resist with additional cold resist on it. Try and get a belt with cold resist as well (resists early on are generally the best thing to have on your belts). Between the two you should be able to max cold resist with the 10% you got early in act 1 (you need 65% total from equipment).

The other ring can be an Eshield ring, having it as it's base, and then additional eshield on the ring. Aim for physical damage on it, life regen and of course extra resists is always good.

Ammy can have eshield (And spirit) on it as well. It can also have +1 to melee skills which is very useful for a monk. I would look for a decent +1 to melee skills ammy that costs less than an exalt and has decent stats on it.

In general it helps to have different skills set up with different support gems. You can have 2 basic attacks, and amazingly enough basic attacks are often some of your highest damage (not skills), especially for monks (But for all martial characters tbh).

On one you focus on PURE damage output probably, adding martial temp for faster attack rates, and whatever element you are focusing on (probably fire). With a high base physical (aim for +physical damage on rings/gloves for sure), and a decent base weapon, you can get REALLy high dps with that basic attack (500+ by first boss).

Your alt staff can focus on cold damage if you want to freeze, and use it with a cold skill sometimes, you can make any skill use a specific weapon as well so you don't have to swap with X. So cold skill uses cold staff and fire skill uses fire staff, lightning etc skill uses whatever staff has the highest base damage.

Other actual skills can focus on stunning (added stun build up), poison and bleed, or anything else you want to do to an enemy. You can also use abilities/skills/spells from any other class. You can use a curse for instance from witch that will reduce the damage of the boss, and as a monk you may have a high enough int to make it worth making that curse also do 30% of your int as damage over time while it's on the boss.

You can use essense drain etc as well to do background Damage over time while you wail on the boss.

Finally you can always just use a ranged weapon in your alternative weapon slot. Ranged weapons deal with that boss much easier, and you should have the dex requirements as a monk to use one. It's certainly not needed, but if you can't beat him any other way, just try using a ranged weapon.

IF you can get health on hit, that can also help alot especially with the faster attacks etc. 10 health per hit doesn't seem like much, but you can be hitting 3-4 times a second, and that is pretty decent regen per second. It's not face tank worthy, but it'll certainly help let you stay face to face with him longer before rolling away etc (just make sure you avoid the anvil attacks etc).

Anyway hope that helps. Good luck.
