Crushing Impacts and Boneshatter
Okay, so in hindsight it’s sort of obvious that the Titan talent node Crushing Impacts will make it so Boneshatter’s shockwave no longer can trigger, as any hit that would prime an enemy for a heavy stun now instead simply heavy stuns them. Making a weapon skill effectively unusable by an ascendancy that is thematically tied to that very weapon class, seems like a huge oversight to me.
I picked Titan and pursued the Crushing Impacts-Surprising Strength branch because I wanted the fantasy of stunning and smashing my enemies with a big fat two-handed mace. Sadly, after effectively losing the ability to use Boneshatter my fun and efficiency took a nosedive as I no longer had a good enough tool for clearing large packs; worse, since neither Leap Slam or Rolling Slam was guaranteed to one-hit most enemies (even with a good weapon), they would instead spread enemies out as they cause them to recoil back from being heavily stunned, further worsening pack clearing. If anything that node is almost more of a downside, and felt so horrible at my level that I soon specced out of it, abandoning that branch entirely. Maybe things get better as you unlock more skills, but at the stage where I'm at, it's a no-go. As an aside, from what I can tell the support gem Impact Shockwave does not seem to ever trigger when specced into Crushing Impacts, possibly explaining some of my pack clearing issues. But an ability becoming suddenly unusable is still bad in my book, and should be changed. Last bumped on Dec 14, 2024, 2:01:41 PM

I share the same feeling as you, as a fellow titan.
I mainly use boneshatter for clearing as well, but now i am in the situation where Leap break their armor and i try to use armor breaker instead as that seams to be what quases the lease amount of break, to get them in the sweat spot where i can use boneshatter. Boneshatter is awesome, but it feels so annoying to have to manage the sweetspot between too little break and too much break, like maybe super late game it can be managed better, but here in the mid levels (50) it's more of a struggle. I wish that it would be possible to bone shatter once on a Heavy break opponent, so once you leap into the pack you can just boneshatter and watch everything die! Otherwise the skill will become dead, and it just feels so good every time you can get it off. which makes me sad. |

This actually helped me diagnose what had happened to me! I completely stopped priming stuff and my build took a nosedive in quality, I've been mucking around with skills trying to find something that works since. Gonna spec out for now but this definitely feels like being punished for success.
Would be nice if Boneshatter procced on a heavy stunned creature or a creature primed for stun. |

Boneshatter just needs to be able to trigger the shockwave off heavy stunned enemies, as well. Whichever comes first per mob--causing heavy stun or hitting while heavy stunned--will trigger the shockwave. Also, fix the recovery animation so it can be canceled. Genuinely plan to skip that ascendancy branch because it'll kill my ability to clear.

Completely agree, this ascendancy passive is nerfing the class instead of improving it.

Maybe there could be a point to this passive if the character used other weapons than maces, so they didn't have access to boneshatter to easily stun enemies that are primed (although this ascendancy seems to be designed to work with maces over other weapon types, especially out of what we have in this version of early access, but whatever). But even so, at the very least, we should then be able to spec into Surprising Strength (the next notable in the branch) without speccing into Crushing Impacts. |
