I want to love poe2 but ..

Do any of you understand what a soft opening meens, its when something gets opened to the public to use and to find and fix all the bugs so that when the day comes that it gets its full release it works as perfect as it can, the way your all complaining its like you expect this to be the full release and for it to work perfectly. When have you ever known a game to be released that didnt have bugs and faults.
You have all paid for the privilege to be game testers so stop complaining and do what you have paid to do. Find some bugs and report them.
One other thing stop comparing it to POE 1 as this as has already been mentioned by the devs IT is not a POE addon its a stand alone game which meens it will always play different but it is based on POE.
If you hadnt noticed this thread should be called sarcasm, negative replies are not the thing here. Positivity through negativity is the way to go.

Quick question: do you understand the irony of criticising people for giving feedback on a "soft release" that's about identifying and fixing the problems with the game?
MOAR PANTS, because every good game needs a pointless meme.

I know I didn’t either. I played poe1 for the past couple months to get myself acclimated to the Poe style, everyone said it was intricate and confusing, it really wasn’t, but POE2 isn’t that at all. It’s more like a Souls game. Dodge, dodge, roll, attack, rinse repeat.
I hope they make some changes otherwise of those 1M pre orders maybe 100k will be left playing. As of right now this is NOT a game you a can make and build multi characters and play for years to come. It’s like Elden Ring, a one and done, if that.

Since when does "having a dodge mechanic" define a game as "Souls-like"? It's just another mobility skill, which ARPGs have had for literally decades.

i just hope poe doesnt go into maintenance mode

Except you somehow ignored the fact that bosses take 10 minutes and have a bunch of mechanics you HAVE to dodge now.

Since when does that make a game a "Souls-like"? World of Warcraft bosses have a bunch of mechanics, some of which you HAVE to dodge. Other ARPGs - including PoE1 - have similar mechanics. On top of that, Souls-like games rely on pattern recognition that isn't overcome by gear and level; you can very much face-tank the bosses in PoE2 if you overgear/overlevel yourself.

You can tell yourself it's a Souls-like if it makes you feel like a better gamer, that's fine. It isn't, though. There's more to Souls-like games that dodge mechanics, and it takes more than dodge mechanics to turn isometric ARPGs like PoE into Souls-like games.

Yeah ok genius, and how do you propose you over gear yourself with 1 yellow drop every 3 hours?
Ok adding a follow-up on this, as rarely people give a summary to their initial post but usually join in on a piss fight instead.

A lot of the "interpretation" of this post is directed towards "skill issue" or "this is not poe 1" or "difficulty is fine".

None of these factors had anything to do with my feedback.

1. The feeling you're left with is supposed to be good when playing a game.
2. My girlfriend never played poe 1 and i recommended waiting for poe 2, so i'm assessing the game also based on how a new player would enjoy this on a first try and not knowing how the game is.
3. I played a Witch, left that out as it had nothing to do with my rate of item drops or ability to roll further.
4. I simply pointed out I was expecting the roll to go further, I never said the roll was stupid.

I never rage quitted, I'm a persistent motherf%&er and I push my limits, in PoE1 I love making the most random builds and this adds to MY personal difficulty level.
This is also something I do as I make builds that cater to some of my disabilities e.g things that causes my right hand to cramp up if I have to play DDR in a boss fight.

My initial post, during my time to level 16 I had a great deal of drops, blue and yellow. Mostly crossbows and short bows, last time i checked witches ain't rangers.
This was properly chewed up into mats / gold as need be, and random items was purchased and upgraded.
But i found myself never getting any upgrades from this.
Additionally from the resulting and already accumulated mats, nothing good was produced and I was yet again left without better gear.

When you waste your entire pool of resources and not get upgrades you HAVE to backtrack to catch up.

I do not "speedrun" anything. I love full clearing, but I did on day two realize how spirit works (I never research game mechanics in advance, I play the game as if I was NEW, always when trying games for the first time. especially when playing EA games, the developer in me requires this) and it turned out I had one uncompleted quest which was not visible to me on day one, the king of the mist - aka. I was missing out on 30 spirit. (Guess i didn't fully clear the map that lead to that area huh? true dat)

The reason for this not being visible was probably due to when opening map with U, the quest log in some cases is closed and not opened. I'm a customed to quest trackers that add, If I'm not mistaken poe2 does some hiding along the way as you pick up more.

This didn't fix my gear issue, but it gave me one more pet to dabble with.

Back to my build choice, I was running ice nova + chaos bolt + skeleton warriors + sniper/frost mage/arsonist. leading up to 16 of course not frost mages until i had those.

later swapped to same but swapped out ice nova with contagion.

No change.

But on day two drops COMPLETELY CHANGED.

After my post, I went to bed and on the next day I logged in and on my first backtrack the loot gods shared with me 80% gear upgrades within the first 30 minutes of gameplay, this changed every fight and I was able to progress.

So the initial post was accurate in regards to:

1. random drops futtbucked me
2. rolling items futtbucked me
3. crafting items gave me the middle finger

I'm adding this post so people understand that my OP was not to criticize but to shed light on a first experience and to allow more people to explain why they had their experiences.

So if anyone else has similar experiences to share in regards to a bad start that went bad due to drop issues causing difficulty, feel free to add more stories.
