Divine Font random gems, very unhappy

Especially since SSF players aren't the ones calling the concern irrelevant. If you feel the state of this system doesn't affect you then surely you don't really have a horse in this race?

Right there is why I believe these people are operating under bad faith. I couldn't imagine going into the feedback section of a game forum to argue with strangers over a topic that doesn't even concern me, can you? Nothing about that makes sense. From the outset, trying to start an argument over feedback directed at the company is in itself ridiculous.

Everyone has to live with the consequences of playing the modes they choose to play. Because none of us are the game’s developers. None of us can change things about POE to be the way we’d like them. This is why there’s a feedback and suggestions forum in the first place.
well, in philosophical sense - yes, you are right

in this case, not quite. POE is a game balanced around trade, not SSF. that translates to different threshold of what can be called a problem.

problem you can solve with 2c purchase that takes less than 20sec in a game centred and designed around trade is not-a-problem

the lab grind is there, but as ive said before, it is not the 'grind for gems', it is grind for 'gem upgrades'. you are perfectly fine (in trade) ignoring it entirely, buying your gem for 2c and moving on. sure, first few days it wont be the case but day 3 most gems were ~2c - youll be perfectly fine

why is that relevant? because if this stuff doesnt work in trade and people complain - GGG will take *some* action. and here trade and ssf players situation differs

note - i am not a fan of this entire rework, the faux 'depth' of it and what is the collateral damage (lots of cool, unique, build-fixing alt quals are gone), but this problem.. is not a problem imo
I like the skills and I like the fact you have to work towards them, but not like this; spending an hour mindlessly running normal lab isn't even grind... it's boredom.

but i'd still rather do that than trade. If the intention is to trade for gems they may as well just put an ingame alternate skill vendor.
this. game. is. built. with. ECONOMY. as. the. core. driver..

you can go with the flow, then the problem takes less than 20secs to solve or try to make water flow upwards (ssf)

i understand trade reluctance, i play mostly with /dnd because i couldnt be bothered but i value my time and if the alternative is to 'grind for hours' i just un-dnd and whisper 3rd person on a trade listing and move on with my life

pure SSF in POE demands unhealthy time expenditure or if you are unwilling - 20% of the content with occasional insurmountable walls to climb

i never understood ssf other than a challenge. trade reluctance is solved by not listing stuff - other than that it is just weird to me. anyway, people who chose to play it - it is the same stuff as low-value, build enabling uniques. they cost nothing but finding them/chancing them equals to hours of mindnumbing grind with no guarantee of success. same story.
@sid: you keep bemoaning the economy as the driving force of game decisions. And yet you ALSO posted in your first response that, on day TWO of the league, every single gem was 1c or less. Economical sense tells us that the need for randomness in the lab runs was 100% meaningless to the economy, as the prices of the gems fell to <nothing> within a single day.

If it were true that this system was designed with the trade market in mind, surely the odds would have been FAR LESS to get what you want....as is the case in every single other system created and currently active in PoE. The market right now is telling us, the players, that the grind just to get a gem is totally and utterly meaningless. There is NO value to it.

So then...based on the economic data we already have that YOU provided, this IS a problem. There exists a system in the game that has no function except PURELY to frustrate someone (and not even for a lot of time at that). So you can bet that it deserves to be argued about, both from a trade AND a SSF standpoint.

The price matters: in this particular instance, the fact that every gem has fallen to zero value in the market in a single day shows that the system BEHIND this is faulty.
there are LOTS of systems designed to 'slow down' the progression, in fact pretty much everything: rng based rewards, rng based rolls, rng based variations - all of it is there to make you FARM HARD instead of getting what you want on the first try. you bypass this with currency and trade. try to get 4 divine vessels to complete your pantheon. it took me THREE characters to lvl94 to find four vessels. this game really is not meant to be played without trade.

and uber lab is great for grind but not the obvious one - you grind for 'xp to gems' to ding 20/20 and double corrupt (here is the HEAVY rng you mentioned). if you are lucky you get 200m exp per bare run and lots more if you hunt darkshrines or run improved offerings.

the gems you simply buy

could it have been done better? sure. is that a REAL problem? no. the lab has its use - but it is not 'getting gems', this is just a side functionality.

Hahaha, come on man. That wasn’t a statement about game balance, it was a statement about responsibility and roles. What is this urge to prove someone “wrong” when all you’ve got is the old endlessly repeated “GGG said it’s balanced around trade”. Such statements are not rules that bind the world, or the terms of discussions on this forum. Nobody’s opinions are limited by those statements. What GGG does with their game isn’t even limited by those statements! They’re big kids now, they don’t need you to pretend to speak for them.

Can I ask you a question? Would you actually be bothered if GGG changed these gems to be available in a more deterministic way?

Because if not…what on earth are you doing?

It’s really not complicated. Trading is about as fun as eating glass. I value my time too, so I don’t spend my leisure time doing things I don’t enjoy. I hope that helps.
Accessibility is what is my purpose for highlighting this problem. These gems offer an alternative way to create a build, and some exciting options at that. But if you have limited time to play, you're new or you are ssf you have to run irrelevant content repeatedly just wasting your time to have access to these alternate build options.

Ive been playing poe for years but I have never gone beyond t3 maps and I rarely map at all. I drop most of my characters with the completion of chapter 10 and I always full clear every zone I do. I'm normally in my 70s when I move on to another character or build, and I do all my own builds. I am no expert, I honestly can't even figure out crafting in this game. I can't seem to add more than 1 mod to a white item.

Additionally, my play time is extended limited. I am a trucker and I am in the road 3 weeks at a time, then I am home for a weekend. Need to get my chores at home done and spend time wuth family which doesn't leave much time for gaming, even the simple way I play, my time is limited and valuable and I don't want to run irrelevant content repeatedly just to get a build option. Regular labs on a lvl 70 character is wholly Irrelevant and boring. As for trade, thats not something I understand how to do. There is not enough documentation in-game that would make me feel safe engaging with any website based trade system.

If labs wasn't so easy to fail and it didn't take so my runs it could be fun. But if I disconnect during the 30 minute long labs run all that time is wasted, same with dying. Truckstop wifi is horrible.

As I said in the beginning, it's about Accessibility. Yes I'm a bit of a noob, but I still invest time and money into my play cessions like moust everyone else and don't support making it more difficult to find a fun way to play the game.
Well I'm about to hit 92 and I've found 6 4th lab keys thus far, got the extra craft darkshrine a few times in those runs too. 2-3 crafts per run. Still have yet to see the "transfigure version" craft. 92. And people defend this.
