Feels so awful to play melee in this game :(
" Thats why 80% of your characters aren't even melee. LOL Here some clown juice. No money until, GGG fix melee.

Melee feels much better than self casting.

" Just like your thoughts on AN, there is no actual depth to the response and woefully and inadequately assess the true situation. A GGG enabler, through and through. I, for one, will call them out on unfair and poor design which could be made so much better. "Good enough" is not good enough. Last edited by jsuslak313#7615 on Sep 3, 2023, 6:24:34 PM

" "because there's exceptions, there's nothing wrong" ... wow what a quick and completely nuance free take. If GGG was less apt to indulge their own bias' takes like yours would be easy to ignore unfortunately GGG seem to grab on to any evidence that lets them ignore their mistakes and never learn from them. Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years. |

It is what it is. Chieftain is just another example of GgG crapping the bed with melee sleeping in it.
Ruthless should be [Removed by Support].

OP's build, Level 93 trade league
-1 mod weapon -no life roll on 5 pieces of equipment (excluding weapon), -3k life (2.7k with precision reserved, this is with a level 20 CWDT which requires 3272 damage taken to trigger) -armour is good -76/75/75 res and nothing to assist against elemental damage (noting low life pool and armour is not high enough for unbreakable) -8k max phys hit with 14k max ele hit with flasks and molten shell off. You made no effort to build your character properly and somehow your gear is worse than day 1 SSF players. -spend 50-100c and get a 600+ pdps weapon, +50% more DPS -take the +max res nodes and 2 x +1 max res masteries -replace all gear without life rolls. These should cost nothing Alkaizer's build this league from Day 1 at level 93 has a 560 dps weapon (there are other players in SSF and HC SSF with more), 4.8k life, 15k max phys hit and 45k max ele hit taken - again with molten shell and flasks off. Boneshatter has great map clear and is tanky when built properly. 4 of the first 5 players to each level 100 in HC SSF were playing melee (3 x bone shatter including 2 on juggernaut and 1 x shield crush). Its one of the most meta skill across trade, SSF and HC leagues and races. Melee has its issues for sure, but that is not what is holding you back lmao Last edited by BrettLee#6388 on Sep 3, 2023, 11:10:46 PM

and the cycle continues
'melee is fine' say people who conveniently play anything but melee :) melee is anything BUT fine, people who say otherwise are invited to actually PLAY it and share their experience. melee is fine if you have extremely low standards melee is fine if you have ~unlimited budget melee is fine if you dont care about ubers melee is fine if you dont care about sanctum melee is fine if you are comfortable with playing one skill melee is fine if you havent tried anything else the list goes on Boneshatter is currently the only skill that actually can be compared with level-based skills when it comes to bang-per-buck. Boneshatter (Divergent ofc) has explosive scaling from one stat (attack speed) - just like spells who scale on +gems sadly GGG will nerf Boneshatter rather than actually trying and boosting numbers on melee skills. it is all about damage. and melee has none. exceptions like Boneshatter or shield skills dont change the picture - these skills (along with Trauma Support) scale like spells and require half of the investments. once that resources are free to be used on defences and utility - yes, then melee is fine. but unless you use the very few skills that actually deal damage without gross investments you have to chose: damage or survivability, you just cannot have both. and POE is a game where damage == survivability, so you end up with melee that is less tanky than a witch draped in rags there is a reason why pretty much every melee build showcase ends up with 'just pretend ubers do not exist and the build is great' copout.
Spoiler
-spend 50-100c and get a 600+ pdps weapon, +50% more DPS
+50% sounds cool once the base is big enough. spells might enjoy 50%, melee needs 300%.. |

" I do think what you mean but I also think other have no idea of what you are talking about. When playing a game like this one of the first questions to ask yourself is like: What is my strong abilities and what is my weakest abilities. The out of character abilities I am talkking about. But people normally dont consider this. In reality if there is a competetion in any kind you need to know those two things. Then to perform good you ned to get advantage of the strong abilities and compensate for the weaker ones. I can't play flasks any good. I will only remember one (to 100%) and then the next quite a bit. But I do changing tjhose flasks so I stand with one. I am barely using flasks. Normally I have pressed that one button max three times when at act six or so. Nobody know the posters abilities. BUt yes, the peroblem is that he don't consider those abilities when chosing melee. There is a limitied space with sockets, skill tree nodes and so on. Priority i number one. I play almost all character till "Purity of Elements", for a few reasons - like the one above,. I don't have to remember which was freeeze and all other - but I also hate being stuck and be unavailable to do anything. Then I get petrified and [censored by the world]! People in common today (what I think at least) is that I want to play this way and I love being a badass and have uber-dps! Then they complain the mobs are to good, nerf them. Or like the poster here, or something else when we have unreachables expectations. But all and everything always gets down to - the player. First look at your own plus and minus, and after that, do the same with the character. I bet I spend more time at skill tree, planning and a lot of those things than a lot of players even play the game - at leastc the amount for them to get through acts. I could be wrong but this is the most logic I have found. So you are correctly, but I don't think other will understand - or simple wont or cant! Cheers! |

" Said the guy who's been hiding his profile for years and, according to himself, hasn't played melee at all lately. " I am doing ubers with melee, i did sanctum with melee, i play several different melee skills not including bone shatter. I have plenty of caster builds to compare them to (i also do ubers with them btw just not as often), a limited budget and the expectation to be able to do all content including ubers and Simulacrum. So there is that. Meanwhile on your side we have an armchair general who hardly plays at all and if he does he plays spells and another guy who made a trash char that would be bad even if it was day 1 SSF. Pretty clear picture. Last edited by Baharoth15#0429 on Sep 4, 2023, 1:30:49 AM
