The cosmetics in this game are terrible
I recently re-installed the game and when i reached lioneye's i found myelf surrounded by some surrealist garbage. Wings as big as the screen and some other visuals that would make Diablo 3 blush. They are ugly, tacky, means nothing (since those characters could be naked and lvl 2), betrays any semblance of integrity the setting is supposed to have and clutters the screen for everyone else.
PoE1 is kind of a lost cause at this point but at least try to tone it down a bit for PoE2, please! It could be even better if you found a way to tie visuals to the itemization itself but at least keep the tone consistent, it really takes people out the game. Last bumped on Sep 2, 2023, 8:56:15 AM

I get surprised more and more at this forum. It wasn't even your cosmetics and you still can't just move on with you playing?
I thought, when i read the topic, "Yeah, some are terrible, but then don't buy it". But I guess I was wrong about that. The only place you met other (if not in party) is at zones where you can't die and you don't fight. Is it really that big problem other people running around wth wings bigger that the screen? I would personally not play with any wings. But what people have when I see them 15 seconds in a town, wow, I couldn't care less. But you should have your opinion, absolutely. It is more that it seems like 90 percent of all posts at foruum is about "nothing" from my view. Then the most normally not even describe why or trying to give a hint of a better solution. At least not more than something that benefit them in a short perspective and from no other perspective. My personal view has always been that you look like the things you wear. Then it started with hiding the helmet. Today we use cosmetics in one way or another and I just accept that this is how it is now, and I more of adapt it, using my own cosmetic now. I agree that level 2 should look like the king but I don't more than that. But Im quite chill whatever other people have as long as it doesnt affect me in game play. But at the forum it affect me to see all threads (and promise me when I think your is one of the least annoying) whining, not because of the whining it self, but they could gather it to one thread. A lot of other post (no maybe not a lot of them, but there is some) just "disappear". I think it's better you start a thread about the gamers playing an rpg (even if its action), they could at least have real character names. I would support that even if it doesnt affect me either. It takes you out of the game. |

You are surprised that other people don't like the same things as you, or find that different things in a game bother them or think could be improved? There's a lot more to a game than just pushing right-click and visual integrity is a huge one (otherwise why have graphics at all, just show the hit colliders and timers for efficiency).
If you want a different way to handle cosmetics (aside from designing them to be less over the top), specially in a game like this where trade and community are so important, you could: You buy/earn cosmetics and are added to your library of available ones. You apply them directly to a corresponding item (maybe using a currency). You can later trade that item if you want. If you add some way of name personalization and make the currency relatively rare you can create some interesting tradable community customized things. You could find a incredible item, apply some troll visual and corrupt it, or have some awesome perfect armor that looks amazing on the market. Feels more involved and interesting than just throwing random junk. Obviously, you wouldn't be able to do that in PoE1, but PoE2 is a fresh start and they could approach cosmetics in a more engaging way. |

Lets try to read again!
It wasn't even your wings? I was surprised. But not anymore, trust me on that! |

Put yourself in the perspective of new players, trying to read the story or get into the setting, it becomes ridiculous, who cares if those are my wings or other people's, they are still on my screen, [Removed by Support]. It's a visual mess. Add to that the opposite end of this game visual spectrum, how the game makes findable items look like crap to entice you to buy the cosmetics, it affects the game in a broader way than mechanically. " Those are paying for the free game you are playing. Might not wanna forget that xD Most of the time playing this game is by yourself in maps or sitting in hideout sorting items. People buy and wear what they feel like. It doesn't matter what you feel about it xD If you feel it breks your immersion you can pay up and host a private league. You can then tell people to not wear cosmetics if they wanna join. Problem solved Last edited by arknath#4740 on Aug 29, 2023, 4:46:10 PM

My cosmic army disagrees with you.
This post sounds to me like someone is upset they can't purchase cosmetics, because honestly they're beautiful (some of them... some of them are definitely ugly). My life situation currently doesn't allow me to buy the pretty prismatic floor so that must mean it's ugly too. Cosmetics are purely optional. If you don't want to look at other people wearing them, I'd suggest finding a single player game. The game is free because of the cosmetics that people are wearing so I'd sooner thank them than make an angry forum post at them. |

First of all the game isn't free for me since i paid more than what a AAA game costs for stash tabs and whatnot. [Removed by Support]
Second, the angry post wasn't about the people that buy those and more about how ugly most of them are (some look out of diablo immortal itself, are tacky and make no sense in the context of the game). If i was an ass towards that guy is because he was first. And third i want to like the cosmetics in this game but they just don't fit anything, why not have them related to the story and lore, something that spawns interest in the world. Instead it's "here's a cosmic dragon and some neon wings, lol". This game used to sell itself as gritty when diablo 3 came out now is just as cartoony. Also, why not have the cosmetics related to itemization in some way, make those visuals mean something gamewise. Last edited by Jenn_GGG#0000 on Aug 31, 2023, 10:19:08 PM

If you don't like other people's cosmetics, stop spending time in towns. Aside from turning in quests during the campaign, or right when you log in, you don't need to spend any time in towns, so just do all your vendoring and stash management and running maps from your own hideout. Once through the campaign, it shouldn't take more than a second or two in the Karui Shores after logging in to start loading into your own hideout, so the time to even notice other people's cosmetics (if there's even anyone hanging out around the KS waypoint, which there often isn't) is negligible. Outside the acts, the only place where you might spend any significant time seeing other people's cosmetics is in the Rogue Harbour, and if you hate it that much, just don't run heist content.
Also, don't trade, because that involves both seeing other players and visiting other people's hideouts; just play SSF. And if you truly hate the idea of even potentially seeing other players, make your own private leagues to play. Fairgraves was a slave trafficker specialized in the kidnapping and transport of children. He was not "a good man".
