Sounds like people that got used to level to 100 on 5 ways simply will have to prepare themselves mentally to stay on a desired level and somewhat dont care about the exp bar..

Even just using them to get to 98 saves so much time. I would not have so many problems with XP penalty if they removed Soul Eater from the game. I am not going to run unjuiced maps just so I don't feed that mob more souls. It is counter to the game design because zero people run around single targeting anything because skills don't support it.

Couple that with the reward curve really getting shoved deeper and deeper into juicing and you have bad design. Luckily so much else is good at the game you kind of ignore it but it's still a major detractor from the game. Although it made sense from before AN because you really had to mess up to die, now it's all RNG.

I can go 10 floors down in Delve no problem, go up 20+ floors to grab a node I wanted then turn a corner and get one shot, or have some hyper hasted Soul Eater mob chasing me the whole way and I am just hoping I can stay alive in time to finish the objective and portal the hell out. AN made the game objectively worse and did nothing it was set out to accomplish other than cause frustration. Everything they added is countered with things like Corrupted Blood can not be inflicted on you, moving away etc. But Soul Eater is just cancer and even more so with Haste on the same mob.

I will continue to sign these threads as I feel like 100 should be obtainable for a dedicated solo player. Not by a professional streamer, but by someone like me that plays 20 hours per week.

I always feel like my build is incomplete because I never make it to 100. Would like to "win the game" by reaching 100 and killing all the map bosses.

The 10% penalty is just too harsh, given how easily you can get one shot even while playing conservatively.
I have played since closed beta, so 10 years now. I have never once had a level 100 char because of two reasons. 1. I can't always just play white maps as that would be so boring I'd never make it to 100 before I quit playing for the league. And 2. When I do try, it doesn't matter how good my build is, how defensive, there is always something that either one-shots or shotguns.

10% xp penalty is fair to give you a reason to not just facetank everything and jump back into the map when you die. But it also feels like such a life draining thing when you are 95+ and trying to safely level, but get killed by a random odd combo, even when you aren't juicing maps.

Like today, I'm going for my first level 100. I'm currently level 95 and got upto 68% XP of lvl96. I'm running through Phantasmagoria map, probably the easiest map for my build. I run as Champion, 26k armour, 28k evasion, all capped res with Fire and Chaos at 76. Grace, Determination and Defiance Banner. Steelskin, Vaal Grace for the exciting times. 4.8 life (which I know is on the lower end but doing the maths means only shotguns and boss one-shots can really kill me). I run totems with taunt so they take the aggro. I do no damage myself. I cannot be stunned. My pots give me anti-bleed, anti-ignite/burning, immune to curses, immune to freeze and chill and I have phasing.

Yet with all this, against 2 straggler mobs, I was hit with something that chunked me down in two hits in a map that had no deadly mods with the exception of exarch altar mobs (which the ignite immune is for). I had all pots up, was full hp and was moving. But I died. It took me over an hour to get that XP because I was taking it slow and doing a bit of heist for easy xp.

Now do I think the the xp penalty should be removed? Probably not. Is the Omen of XP something I think is good? Absolutely but I never really take omens and it requires you to farm for it before you can leave trials to goto maps. Really what I am saying is the game is just built in a way where wombo-combo mods can be ridiculous, come out of nowhere like randy orton and slap you with a waste of life.
But should the penalty be removed or lessened? I dunno. I'd like to say yes, mostly because I don't like dying. But if it was removed then I'd just never look at map mods again. It makes sense to have something to play against. Even if it's just a random shotgun deat

The xp penalty on death is fine, if not a little outdated.

The xp penalty on killing should absolutely be removed, since theres no way to boost area level of maps above 83, with the old Watchstones being long gone.
PoE2 is a great tutorial for PoE1.
GGG has the skill to waste everything is good in its own game.
5 ways nerf is just awful, another good endgame completely useless now.
Pffff

Not only is this achievable its easy, fix your build and work towards your goal instead of trying to make maximum returns while working towards your goal.

You can get 2% a map at 99 now and still be safe.

Omen of XP is a good addition regardless as it allows players to move their penalty from time to currency (as long as they are suitably rare not dirt cheap or extremely expensive)
Izaro : "When there is a penalty, there should be a reward"

Seriously, add some xp gaining mods or even some "1% increased xp gain" tattoos
