It's not mandatory, it's not Ruthless, and it doesn't matter how many billions of people complain about "mandatory Ruthless". Y'all need to chill, please. If you ignore every last little thing the developers say about it because you're too busy being Offended at how slow-paced and unforgiving the demo was? I mean listen to what you are saying ? On one hand you chastise everyone for enjoying THE CURRENT GAME, the one the zoomers enjoy and then on the other you again persecute us for not liking the exact opposite to what we have now ?

I dont care about poe2, not at all, im not interested in playing poe1 in a new engine for another 10 years to get back to the content level we have now. Stick that idea in your pipe.

nahh you NOT allowed to enjoy poe 1 and you NOT allowed to think that poe 2 is not for you . you MUST like it and you MUST jump over hoops to defend vs valid arguments

Enjoy the first game all you like. It ain't going anywhere. It'll always be here, being too fast for common sense. If Path the Second ain't for you, bangin'. That's your call to make.

You do not get to continually insist that there's no reason or audience for the new game, just because you are not part of that audience yourself.

The new game is going in a different direction, one Jonathan and company are banking a lot of money there's an unserved audience for. I happen to think they're onto something, and I'm not the only one. Path 1 serves the audience looking for Religion of Zoom fuckery, there's no need to reinvent the wheel there. Path 2 can reach an entirely new market while y'all stay back in 1 and continue click-booming your way through content that will never be "hard" enough for you.

That's not the take at all. The take is that the OP is not seeing the demo for what it really was.

It can still be slow but fun to play.

But if the game is just a chore to play and progress in, and it's made that way specifically to lengthen play time or whatever, and GGG think players will just eat that up because they've got nothing else to play, I think this could go south real fast. Hopefully the game is 100% designed to be as good and fun to play as possible, because players these days are just too aware of these kinda MMO/mobile/GAAS schemes and will notice them immediately

Preface: I don't care about POE2 whatsoever, so take it for what it is worth.

There isn't enough information to know what they are doing with POE2. The people bashing on POE2 know just as much or little as the people loving on it. ExileCon 2019 vs 2023 had some pretty big changes. Who knows what will change in the next year. It does seem to pull some inspiration from ruthless, but how much will not be known until the beta.

As for your comment specifically, if you have no played Ruthless, you should if you have the time. It's a mindless grind that specifically tries to suck time and make you run into walls. It's kind of fun to muddle through for a while, but red maps on a 4-link that has bad supports is not terribly fun. Also, maintaining maps is miserable again. I personally got to level 85 and decided that it would be more fun to go paint the house instead.

Hopefully they only pulled a little bit of inspiration from Ruthless for people that would like to try it. But really, none of us know and will not know for over a year.
