Currency will become worthless over time

I assume you are playing default?

Move to hardcore, we dont have those problems there.

As much as I avoid the silly HC/Default pissing contest, there is a nugget of truth to this statement.

The moment GGG said 'no more wipes', Default's fate was sealed. It was to become exactly that which GGG wanted it to be: a repository of infinite wealth and an almost impossibly flooded market.

The long-term appeal of Path of Exile has nothing to do with anything that happens on Default. It amazes me how many people don't realise this. Once more leagues are in play, and I'm talking more than just 1 week races -- months-long leagues -- the economy of Default should become almost irrelevant. Everyone can be gods on Default, eventually.

There's no potential for competition on Default. The last bastion of competition of Default would be PvP, and we can't begin to speculate what GGG has planned there.

So yes, you don't have those problems on Hardcore because items and currency are constantly cycling out of circulation there. Feeding into the ever-expanding pit that is Default.

I'm no economics expert and even I recognised that 'no more wipes' was a direct confirmation that Default was no longer relevant to any serious players. Not because hardcore is any more 'hardcore' or because you only get one life, but because Default, at the moment, became utterly unrealistic in its expansion. Things are constantly entering it; nothing leaves.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

Good thing we have not these problems in HC :)

Dont complain about economy if you play default LOL :)

leetcore elitsism isnt gonna get you anywhere. more ppl play on "scrubcore" than on leetcore thinking either is superior to the other is your right, but it doesnt make it true.

If GGG wants a successful game they need to cater to many ppl, not just the leet 5% on HC ladder. ofc noone expects HC'ers to accept this. But it really doesnt matter since you are the minority so who cares about HC anyway. You can have your niche fun over there and not bother the real player base.
The only way to solve some of this issue would be to have no true default league. There would need to be 'Hardcore' & 'Hardcore light' only.

Upon death in Hardcore light, one random piece of equipped gear could disappear creating a small item sink. This would ensure some item & orb value over the long run.

:D

If there are too many 5-links, then they lose value.

If they lose value, then it takes less currency to buy them.

If it takes less currency to buy them, currency will become more valuable over time.

...

You herped your derp.

Ways to have a stable economy in an online game

-Socialism: All the good stuff is crafted by npcs. The game company controls the recipes for the npcs and can lower, adjust, or rework them as the economy needs.
This is what single-player games do

Pros: Provided the company is smart there will be economic issues ever.
Cons: No or extremly limited player trading

-Ladder system: Every once in a while a big red butten is pressed that resets the world
Pros: Economy is predictable, stable, and any issues are short term
Cons: Always losing your stuff

-Dungeon+1: Every once in awhile the company releases some new dungeons, much harder than anything before, with gear unobtainable anywhere else. This makes the old gear's value plummet

Pros: Economy is more or less stable. Old gear becomes hand me downs for new players
Cons: Only the most dedicated shit socks can experience end game Economy feels artificial. There is no middle class. Either you can run the new dungeon and become or you can't and you beg for hand me downs.

-The great tax hike: Entry to high level content requires players to spend vast amounts of money on things that do nothing (for example you can't enter the new instance without a flying mount or a very expensive key)

Pros: Economic resets occur at the richest 1%
Cons: People hate it, bars the 99% from experiencing certain content. Only a short term fix

-Death tax
A signficant portion of your wealth is taken on death

Pros: Stable economy, everything has value, even the biggest exploits will eventually be fixed over time as players die
Cons: Too hard for most gamers. Requires actual planning and reaction tiem

-Endless inflation
What soft core mode is

Pros: Everything but the very best gear eventually are given out for free
Cons: There is no end game, no one can afford the best gear. Crafting is pointless since
gear is already abudnent.

You guys DO realise softcore is mean't to have good items??

We play softcore because we want to feel overpowered.

Currency will NEVER be worthless. you can trade with it. you can upgrade your items.

6L will still remain rare. Gear becomes more worthless, but godly gear will still be hard to attain.

And even if gear is easier and easier to attain in softcore, is that such a bad thing? Players play for fun. Plays will also leave.

If you want a hardcore experience, alt f4 league is that way -->
The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG

If you want see what SC will eventually look like Log onto diablo 2 and go to a nonladder game. That is a soft core economy that has never gotten reset in 10 years.

There is no trading EVER. Why? Because everyone already has godly gear. The active players
already has runewords and 50 charms.
They could trade for slightly better runewords and charms but why? They can already solo
every boss without drinking potions.

If they get a unique drop they usually don't even bother picking it up unless its a fucking Tryial's might or a gheeds charm.

Sometimes when the high level players are bored they will give away dozens of rares, uniques, runes, and runewords to random players for free.

And the new players don't trade either. Do you know why? Because they just met a high level person that gave them a pile of godly gear for free.

We don't need to theory craft about what the SC economy will turn into, because EVERY OTHER diablo clone SC economy is always the same.
Yes please.

Let us all be godly!

Yesterday i died from 100%-0% in a single gamecrash and i did not build glascannon, max res and a high HP pool and i still die to Dsync and gamecrashes.

So i dont really see the point in playing HC with those silly bugs.
