My personal opinion is that Starcraft is a dumb arcade with zero tactics. It is all about control of territory and fast clicking, nothing else

In comparison to Jagged Aliance 2 Starcraft is trash, same as any other RTS

Maybe someday it might be on the table, but I'm quite happy with the game as it is.

Diablo 3 had much less desync issues compared to PoE.

I can't find it right now but there was a post by the devs about this, I think it's in the manifesto from last week.

There is a few ways to code these games-
1- like D3, runs smoother but you can't really dodge attacks once the animation starts if you were targeted no matter what you do you get hit. It more frustrating because you can't react to stuff but desync issues are easy to deal with

2- The other one you can dodge and react to on screen events but the desync issues are a bitch to deal with.

I'm paraphrasing but I think that was the gist of it, you should look for it it was very instructive.

Yes, lets make PoE turn based.

Won't work. For turn based you need a party, like Baldur Gates. Or single char and long range firearm, like Fallout

Turn based game with a single char with a sword is the dumbest thing you can come with. Neverwinter Nights is example of how not to do it

but dude consider the tactial depth you can achieve with turn based gameplay. I mean you could control every little movement and action of your character unlike now where its just a huge fuckfest of running around and killing stuff like a moron. Maps would take 2 days to complete but who cares.

Thing you should learn from strategy games: fast paced = dumb RTS, slow paced = tactical depth

That's why the best strategy games are turn based. Or quite slow like Myth. You need time to make decision and place everybody in proper position

What a load of bull****, then why is Starcraft best strategy game out there?

Most popular =/= best

To the OP:

I sort of fail to see how PoE is slower. In my experience, it's practically the same at low level and way faster in PoE at a higher level. This is supported further due to the fact that there is no attackspeed or runspeed cap in PoE, while they are capped at a quite low % in Diablo 3.

I did kind of feel the same when I first started playing. I had been playing a lot of D2 & Torchlight 2 before venturing into Wraeclast. Both of the other games have a lot more of a fluid feel to combat.

But after playing around with a few builds everything seemed to "click", and I fell in love with PoE.

Once you start getting some +movement & +attack skills / gear everything seems to improve.

I still prefer the actual combat mechanics of D2 & TL2, but PoE skill gems and skill tree keep me coming back to the game.

The expected reply from a troll. Goob job!

You fooled the rest, though, so props I guess.

Your original assumption is that better gameplay = more desync. I think that's a pretty ridiculous assumption, or at least I can't seem to think of any reason for why it would be true. But after all not me nor you know how the game works and how they are planning to fix desnyc. My point is that the gameplay should feel better - if there are any technical challenges associated with this, then I have trust in GGG's abilities to solve them.

The gameplay mechanics in D3 are pretty fun IMO. Sure, the always-hit mechanic is a little lame - but the game runs fast / feels smooth and combat is pretty damn fun. It's just a shame that almost every other system around it is sorta boring.

Combat in TL2 is also pretty well done IMO, but find the skill system / itemization a little boring - it's a good game for a diversion / casual romp around, but not one that really gets under my skin.

I also think both games have much more interesting maps / areas - yes, the visual style is a little more cartoony, but I enjoyed the level layouts in TL2 quite a bit.

PoE does pretty decent on the itemization / crafting / skill system and has a high crack-factor - but the actual game-play mechanics do feel a little dated, map generation / level design isn't quite as interesting. But, it does have that crack-factor that keeps me coming back and wanting to put in a few hours a day.

So, I can understand the 'love the game / find the game-play a little bland' - as there are other systems in play that really do suck you in.

You have one char with close combat weapon (sword). What are your gameplay options? One - run into monster and click the single button until he drops dead. Repeat it 10000 times.

It won't work with turn based. You need options and choices to choose from for TB, not a single one: "click LMB". That is what Bioware didn't take into account with Neverwinter Nights, probably the dumbest combat system I saw in RPG
