Prediction: POE2 will be in an upgraded Ruthless mode of play at launch that will allow GGG to slowly rebuild the game over time just like it happened in 2013+

The whole "side project" concept was a diversion so they could test it at the most stripped down level. If they add a few things back either in Act 1 or over time, they will create lots of space for the future. It will also allow them to integrate all the leagues ideas (heist, blight, delve, etc.) into the Acts in a way that fits with all the new ideas they have been working on.

I did not play the last Leagues, because nothing changes, the same game patterns, and I play on ssf. The release of Ruthless for me was a second wind for the game, I played with pleasure in the last league for around 2 months on HCSSF Ruthless, it was really hard, but also interesting and challenging (in this league I will also go Ruthless hcssf).

So GGG decided to make Ruthless the basis, which does not interfere with the players of the regular PoE. Despite the fact that we saw a lot of ordinary races, GGG decided to make a race on hcssf Ruthless, a real challenge for the players, which, again, will not interfere with the regular PoE ...

And what I see when I go to the forum? Is pure anger and hatred. Many write that no one needs the Ruthless mode, that is boring, that is garbage... They absolutely dont care about people who like this mode, even if these people are not so many. They are like little children, all attention should be given to them, no attention to other, only the one that they like.

This is pure selfishness.

Thank you for understanding. I care very much about challenge rewards having revolved my goals in this game around them. So the rules in which GGG had established for these challenge rewards are sacrosanct to me.

That GGG will break the rule for a mode that's not intended to interfere with the main game? I think it's clear that GGG (Chris?) sees Ruthless as the real game and is building incentives and motivation to shift perception towards that new reality.

I am not sure I want to ride along to this new future.


I never cared about the challenges or totems even the MTX really, i came to make money because standards economy was dying and i just wanted to buy a couple nice items that to this day i still dont have.

Moved on to the leagues figuring at least here im safe right? I mean i lose my stuff every 3 months but (this is where the core population will be right!?) but league retention seems to be worse on the economic side since these changes so i stopped my challenge progress at 28 too because what was keeping me going was making small upgrades which i couldn't do in a dead economy while everyone played ruthless.

Do i have to play ruthless now GGG? I keep begging them to allow us to start HC for challenge leagues and then send us to Standard Challenge league when we die, I thought that might unite the playerbase a little more to be sympathetic towards Hardcore.. I wasn't aware hardcore was intended as an optional gamemode like (SSF) i always considered it a core part of the game, just not my home.

Add in my savings getting dunked among other changes that affected standard as best i could try i did what i thought you wanted me to do GGG, now i dont know what to do anymore.

any sense of security is gone now, I hate how angry i feel and am trying so hard not to just dump a bunch of negativity for the sake of it.

and @Draegnar your opinion matters just as much as anyone else around here who has xyz amount of support packs, Not everyone can afford to drop that much and its a bad metric for quality feedback.

I'm not a ruthless hater or even a ruthless enjoyer for that matter but I did try it out. Its fair that it gets it's own set of challenges, sharing the same challenges with the other modes would in fact cause them to balance the challenges around being doable in ruthless.
A different totem headpiece wouldn't bother me, but a separate set of rewards probably would. I'm not entirely sure where I fall on the issue.
Makes no sense tbh the fact they did the league event in ruthless ssf hc is also atrocious... no one wants to play that slow 6mon grind when the only build you will see people playing is RF jugg because you have zero access to anything for ages. Wow, thrilling... lmao boring AF.
I don't see any problem, the game is balanced arround 0.1%, now 0.1% have a new challenge to enjoy.

Go get the 0.1% experience, when u reach merveil with 1 skill and drop it it's the 99.9% experience.

Seeing the recently published rewards, this was handled in the worst possible way in my opinion.

First, I have no problem with ruthless being there, I played it quite a lot (72, 79, 77 SSF HC RIPs then 75 SSF SC), I just played it enough; it was not difficult (low yellow maps), just was tediously boring with its slowed down progression curve (like back to the map sustain issues era, and so on).

As a regular solo SC and HC whole-league player (usually SC league start then rerolling into HC post 40/40), I was really disappointed right away on the announcement, that despite HC stopped getting separate rewards, right now, the new hobby side project gets its own challenges suddenly.

To make it worse, as tradition, these rewards and the way of their unlocking are like spontaneously half-baked. The two game modes gets different challenges (40 and 8), but gets the exact same armour sets (tiered armour sets again, by the way), with just a separate totem at the end.

I also had to check the reveal video for quite long to finally spot the totem differences, which is basically the bottom of the four flags; everything else (its 98%) are the exact same on them.

My problem is, the same armour set rewards makes it a full waste to do one mode after another, but they put there the (2%) changed second totem to torture the challenge hunters just like me.

Yeah, sure, I know a lot of people who always just buys, rotas and begs their challenges quickly to 40/40 anyways will do just fine still with the same in ruthless as well in no time, but for the actual challenge grinders, this change is clearly pretty bad; especially considering how the reward system got attached to them with different rewards, but actually only like a 2% difference on the totem alone.

At least, different armour set coloring on them, or vaal orb instead of chaos orb, or anyhing, but this..

Edit, update, oh boy, just found the 40 and 8 challenges on poedb.. as I just expected, nothing is difficult in the 8 ruthless challenges, they are just pure slow turtle speed torturing grinds with map sustain issues, alch & vaal orb gaining problems, etc.. besides the last one, the first 7 is just normal grinds in a dropless game mode, but nothing more challenging than anything else in the normal game mode. Fun fact, the normal conditional boss kills are going to be more difficult in terms of skill than any on the ruthless list, which is kind of funny, but hey, that is it then, whatever, I guess :)

Just a last edit, it is so much fun to see that none of the "big boys" are even thinking to start in ruthless even for the race, all are in SSF at tops, but mostly suddenly just in trade. In a hobby side project mode, which was made exactly for these people, right? So yeah, another job well done; the 0.0001% target audiance does not even care with the game mode (as was expected based on the last league numbers), but these boring 8 challanges are here and still forced on the whole playerbase.

Just one fun edit on day 3, not even progressed much yet in this wonderfully great new league, but already ran into seven bugged challenges out of the 40.. and probably there are even some more what I did not even started to check out yet.. This league is hilariously pathetic; UI, channeling, actually zero loot, scourge 2.0 mod balance, +80 dex power creep, etc.. I simply cannot believe anymore that this whole league / patch was playtested at all for a single minute by a single person.
All-time non-streamer luckless dropless rewardless tons-of-time-playing non-TFT-er 100% solo player.
So, it just turns out, we were lied to for years with the promises of a two-storied one PoE 4.0.
All these worse and worse beta leagues, all these braindead changes, all lead to this.

i think they will do another mtx thing on ruthless again at the end of league again to keep people engaged
