is diablo 3 worth buying?

I didn't purchase Diablo 3, so I wouldn't know if it is worth buying or not. And I have no plans to. I simply don't care about it.
I can play the world's smallest violin on demand.
I just put a ticket in for a refund. I doubt I'll get my money back. My reasoning was connection problems making the game unplayable which is true. I didn't mention that I wasn't getting my items from the gold auction house which put me out of pocket without receiving my gear.

The only character that I enjoyed was the monk so I felt like I only got 1/5 of what I paid for. It's been a horrible experience from the purchase date.

Until I get my money back I will continue to openly discourage anyone from buying anything from Blizzard, ever.

Just keep requesting. I got my refund after 4 tries with the ticket submission. Tried calling their billing line but couldn't get through so I had to keep sending tickets after tickets.

By the way TC, if you have played Diablo 2 and loved what was about then don't buy Diablo 3. It is absolute trash that is designed towards the auction house.

In a hack and slash action rpg. The sense of satisfaction comes from killing monsters and getting epic loot. But that feeling is squandered by the auction house. You almost NEVER get any good loot and you are forced to grind gold to buy items from the auction house that are overly inflated.

Using the auction house is like trying to beat someone to a bid on E-bay.

Not true. You will get lots of good loot.

If you don't like the bid system of the AH then just use buyout, that's what I do anyways.

The only good loot comes from Inferno act 3 -> act 4.

Playing on any lower difficulty you will NOT get any loot that can help you venture pass inferno act 1 - > act 2.

In order to beat inferno act 2 you need gears from inferno act 3 -> act 4.

The problem with melee classes are they can't farm anywhere else other than Inferno act 1. And the gear that drops are utter garbage that they cannot use. They are forced to find those items worth putting on auction house, sell it and then buy gears from act 3 -> act 4.

That is the only way to progress in the game. The other way is roll a ranged class and play glass cannon. Kill monsters before you get 1 shotted by them.

In D2, I can farm for gear at nightmare mephy and still get gears that will help me in hell.

In D3, the only way to get through higher difficulty is to get gear that are way beyond your current difficulty.

You might ask, how did those first few people that started the game got to the point where they completed act 4 inferno without gears in the auction house?

They exploited resplendent chests in act 2 inferno over and over. Restarting the game, skipping monsters, getting to the chest, rinse and repeat. Which is why the auction is a joke in its current state.

I was keeping an eye on an unique item on the auction house for a long time hoping to save enough gold to buy it. The item is a legendary ring "Justice Lantern" that gives 11% block chance.

Day 5 - 8: Justice lantern price was around 300k - 500k gold.

day 8 - 10: Justice lantern price was around 1mil - 1.5mil.

day 10 - 14: Justice lantern price was around 2mil - 5mil.

Right before I quit and got my refund: Justice lantern price was around 5mil - 10mil.

You might ask, why don't I farm for this justice lanterm myself? I can't. Inferno act 1 does not even drop stormshield. All these items can only be obtained at inferno act 2 - act 4. But I need gear from inferno act 3 -> act 4 to get pass inferno act 2. Get the picture?

The auction house has gone to sh*t. When RMAH is out, the value of gold will go into hyper inflation. Perhaps justice lantern will start going for 50mil - 100mil.

The inclusion of auction house and RMAH was the worst decision ever made. Putting that into a loot gear grind hack'n'slash game defeats the purpose of this genre.

Auction house/RMAH will work better in mmorpgs like WoW.

That's false. Stop making things up jsut because you didn't like the game.

Prices always take some time to reach their "equlibrium price". Players don't instantly know what things are worth in a new currency.
So your observation is quite meaningless.
I have to agree with Ron there to an extent. A1 inferno drops are absolute crap, barely worthy of using on A4 Hell or A1 Inferno. In my experience 99.99999% of everything that drops everywhere is crap, and this is due to the balancing of drops around an AH. It really does kill a lot of the fun in an item hunt when you know that the odds of actually FINDING an item upgrade for my character is about as likely as getting mauled by a polar bear and a grizzly bear in the same day... and this is farming in A3/Ponyland on inferno. Everything is still crap! nothing compares to what I am wearing to survive that was purchased from the AH let alone an upgrade.... I am pretty sure I could farm 24/7 for 4-6 weeks and no replace a single piece of gear I am wearing without using the AH and this is depressing.

FYI: I can clear whimsy in about 20-30mins on inferno and hit all clouds and whatnot with 300mf and full neph stacks.... still rubbish. I occasionally find a decent item that fetches a bit on the AH, but actually acquiring gear upgrades for my character requires that I use the AH, or run bots for the next several years.

As I've said elsewhere, this is precisely why my most hardcore min-maxy friend quit D3 as soon as he hit Inferno act 2. He realised that the most effectvive method of getting through it is to acquire gear from acts 3 and 4. I saved myself the 'told you so' speech because it really bummed him out.

That you, a complete stranger to me, would say much the same thing confirms what I already pretty much believed.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
I'm wondering the same thing. Still on the edge about buying D3.

While I do enjoy the game in some regards, there are a lot of problems and Ronteque hit the major one on the head. The loot distribution is setup to drive players to the AH. While this is great for farmers/gold sellers it is very bad for actual players. It really depends on what you want out of the game.
