This is the complete opposite of what has been overwhelmingly asked by melee players for so long - removing totem buffs and compensating for it elsewhere. It is not fun to just press 1 button before every rare+ fight, every time, with no strategy, just as a "more damage" button.
Now on top of that, you are automatically locked out of boots for every build as well.

Melee totems with these boots are mandatory for every melee build for maximum DPS, and not mandatory as in "Woohoo BBQ time wif my giga size rare buffs" but "Okay, I got the mandatory numerical BIS item for every melee build in the game for a dogshit mechanic that I hate but I have to use for DPS - what's next?"

Even Mageblood which is borderline God mode is swapped out by Headhunter on some endgame builds. These boots will not be swapped out with anything.

I agree. They badly needed to just remove totems from the all melee builds and buffed the skills instead to make up for it.
There is the one Generals Cry, Berserker build that already uses the Forbidden Flame/Flesh Jewel that gives 100% increased buff from Ancestor totems, that might stack nicely with these boots, but the tradeoff I know I will be losing from my crafted boots is additional onslaught effect, tailwind, etc... on the offensive side, and elusive, resistance etc.. on the defensive side.

You would want it even more then because of the lingering effect and 100% additional totem effect is still even better mathematically than anything you can get with best rare boots possible.

I'm shocked they're even worth THAT much, to be honest. The boots are garbage, having double effect of one totem type is only marginally better than having normal effect of two totem types, and you're losing things like action speed, ailment avoidance, phys gained as extra, etc.

I honestly think these were added to the game solely to lower Omni's drop rate.
