Should Magic Find be removed from the game (Poll)
" Long as its not deleted i don't care as a rarefinder, rebalance it, rework it, cap it.. As long as i can help people with it, The cap does not sound like a terrible idea to discuss further but i do question what such a cap would be at. could care less about the amounts of loot, its all relative, if we all get more or less everything adjusts to that and maintains a value regardless, I just play the game and keep selling anything i can. The cap idea being bandied about isn't a cap on the numbers its just there to prevent players from gaming the system, the idea being that you can magic find independently or in a party but can't hire somebody to MF one monster for you or open maps for you.
Basically its what it is now with a few loopholes closed so players no longer feel like they need to phone a friend whenever a particular AN combination rocks up. I'd never make an MF build it just doesn't appeal to me, but I think players that want to pog at mass unique drops searching for treasure should be allowed to have their fun. MF cullers aren't this they are more akin to scalpers, so dividing the two makes sense in the long run. Last edited by Draegnarrr#2823 on Sep 5, 2022, 6:22:50 AM

" I don't like map open. I agree it's simpler, but it's also very easily abusable - e.g. open the juiced map wearing your MF gear then switch it out. I've got nothing against the MF archetype, indeed I used to run variants back in OB, summons for DPS, plus gear with IIR and some IIQ still: and I had Firestorm with IIR/IIQ/Culling to try and get even more loot. But the point is, it is slow and limited. Party play with a dedicated culler abuses that to some extent, and that's why I like a party average, but when the culler is only called in for exceptional circumstances then it breaks the system. And if GGG try to react by making loot even spikier and/or even lower *on average* then everyone else gets hurt far more. Looking for a mature guild to play with?

Well, not only in PoE, I have been against the all MF idea for a long time now for many reasons... So, yes, I would love to say bye bye to it.

" Exactly. What matters is the money flow. And the money flow is heavily slanted by RMT. People in this thread assume they are paying GGG's bills with their cash shop purchases. They're not. RMT is, through Tencent. That's why GGG's leadership is acting so smug and superior while dismissing player bitchings. Because they are not paid by the players' "legal" purchases. This is the end of POE and the time of its turning into a corrupt money, asian cash whore. RIP This is why they're messing with loot tables the way they are: because it favors RMT traders. Face it paypigs. Corrupt money ruined your game. You don't own GGG, Tencent and RMT traders do. You're just along for the ride. She was never yours, it was just your turn. |

I have always hated magic find. I understand why someone else likes it, but what I imagine they don't realize is just how much it cheapens the game for non-MF players. It has never been more apparent to me than in the current meta. It seems that the game is not worth playing unless you MF-cull, which to me is a form of cheating. It isn't literally, I know, but it is taking advantage of a mechanic that lessens gameplay value for other players. What happens then is that you feel shoe-horned into playing MF, logging or hiring an MF-culler - and if that doesn't take away from your gameplay experience, then I don't know what to tell you... It's definately against any sort of honesty of the rpg, the immersiveness of the video game or the fun for other players who feel there's no reason to play, because they will never see any meaningful loot compared to MF'ers.
Magic find should be removed completely. The arpg should always see the same chances for any build. It should not be gated by a gear affix, but by player skill versus game world/content. |

Topic creator is pointing at extreme outliers in drops and falsely claiming mf is the problem.

" Although a bit of skill surely helps with this game, it is mostly your gear that will allow you to overcome poe. And mf is part of it. Heart of Purity

" Excuse me? I think the poll speaks for itself. And the numbers replying speak for themselves. The majority of players are in agreement that MF is an abomination. And I don't look at outliers - I see root causes. Magic Find is a root cause to the trade economy imbalance. It is at the heart of RMT. The MAJORITY of black-market farmers will run MF builds. Here are two undeniable truths: 1. RMT is a major problem for POE and has a big hand in dictating the market value of items. 2. MF is a major contributor to RMT. Black market farmers can afford to invest hundreds of dollars into MF builds, and scrape maps 24/7 for items and currencies that then flood the markets. They literally see 100x - perhaps even 1000x the loot of a normal player. GGG is not in control of the market, but attempts to correct the "lack-of-scarcity issue" that happens when dozens of headhunters (for example) flood the market by nerfing loot drops and adjusting the "balance" of the game across the board. Too many headhunters circulating? Then its drop chance gets nerfed to oblivion. Most recently and drastically the stealth nerfs we have seen have been attempts to "CORRECT THE MARKET" and reestablish a core tenet of the game: Higher difficulty = Better rewards. However pretty much EVERYTHING that has gone wrong with regards to rebalancing loot drops (including introducing ArchNemisis into the core game to establish that ramping (but totally RNG) difficulty factor) has been caused simply by GGG trying to fix symptoms of the MF problem rather than the basic issue: Which is this: The reality of the game meta today is that 99.99% of players will never see any of the most scarce items. Never have enough currency to pay for them (unless they turn to the black market). Their currency drops will be abysmal. So MF build is the only meta that now matters - that is how broken the game is right now. MF builds have now become an ABSOLUTE requirement for any player wishing to see endgame loot drops that come close to those dropping for farmers on an hourly basis. This is NOT THE WAY THE GAME IS MEANT TO BE. |

The Strawpoll website seems to be having problems and the poll is offline right now :|
We have had over 600 votes in the past 3 days so I hope it comes back soon. It has been very interesting reading. EDIT: Nevermind - back up and running. The site has been down twice for short periods now so please be patient if you're having trouble getting to it. Current Status: ![]() Last edited by Deloria#3805 on Sep 6, 2022, 8:49:58 AM
