Most of the average or decent rares that casuals buy and use are leftovers or missed hits from people who try to craft gear. With divines being super scarce now and being needed for metamods, the price of all gear is going to go up. Casuals suffer the most when fewer people can craft gear.

I've been looking for an excuse to "take a break" from POE for a while, and I believe I just found it. I had been grinding for over a year to hoard up a stack of 8,000 Exalts that I wanted to use to make a REALLY great min/max build. Now. . .overnight...they are worth a small fraction. I only had one Mirror. I guess GGG doesn't really care about the common player. They could have cut the drop rate for Ex in half to mute the exchange rate or something similar. The point is, you can't just make a major change to the economy like this and not expect people to be ticked off. I got screwed, and so I'm leaving the game. My plan is to check back in 4 months or so to see if the economy has stabalized and Exalt rates are back to being respectable. If the persecution of Exalted Orbs has ceased, than maybe I'll ease back in.

This Exalt/Divine change is worse than ANY nerf....and I'm leaving the game because of it. . . .hopefully not permanently, but possibly so.

That is simply not true. Casuals get like 1-20 exalts whole league. Crazy i know. They dont bother even with t2 gear. We talk about players that rarely go above 24 challanges. Go check how huge % of players it is. You will be shocked. They will benefit from the new harvest the most.

Like, people in this thread are theorizing that they might go higher than 600 chaos, a full inventory. At that point don't they stop being currency and start being more like stocks, similar to mirror shards? not truly used for common trading outside of the incredibly top tier stuff.

If exalts are worthless and divines are way too expensive, what would the goto currency item be for items that used to be measured in 5-20 ex?

I think this medium currency will still be exalts. Just the prices will be bigger numbers in Ex than before. Now having 10s and 100s of exalts in your stash would not count as being rich though.
Everyone panics that Ex will be like 5c but after some consideration I don'd think this will be the case. I expect them to be 20-30c(or maybe even more), but not lower than 15 and this will be enough to use Exalts as a medium-tier trade currency.

I'm not so sure. The meta crafting is in divines also, which means Ex's will only be used to slam. Which, most of the time, is very niche anyways (maybe some jewels?)

I think I'd rather have 5-10c tbh.

Ex slam is so niche right now because of cost of it. If the cost of it will be 5 times lower, it automatically becomes 5 times more common to use it.

Ex slam is so niche because of the odds to hit something good. Mod pool is terrible.Of course, if ex become worth something like 5c super casuals could start slamming 24/7, but I believe, that after 50-100-200 slams they will find out what crafters already know - it's just not worth it in 95% cases. So, outside those niche cases, you still gonna just burn currency via slamming. Yes, you will throw away less currency via every slam. But without checking poe craft, checking the weights, calculating the odds, proper bench blocking etc,etc - you still gonna be heavily dissapointed in the result.
