using cannula to describe a quiver is just wrong.

its definition is : a narrow tube for insertion into a bodily cavity, as for draining off fluid, introducing medication, etc

Balderdash. That's not the only definition.

The biggest problem with cannula isn't that it can't mean 'tube' generally, but that it's a diminutive. It's a very narrow or short tube.

carnal ape is in poor taste. it makes it sound like a "lustful sex ape".

eh

i honestly don't see the problem with the sexual overtones. the apes are bestial, fleshly, musclebound, and they'll rape you or some such.

this is nowhere near gorilla snatch territory!

Its rather common in todays world where sounding intelligent has become the hip thing to do.
yeah nobody wants them to sound intelligent that would just be trying to be hip

brb complaining that their word choices dont sound intelligent

Carnal does have etymological roots meaning "of the flesh," but in the context in which it appears in PoE, it takes on a much more disturbing meaning than a merely carnivorous ape.

It does? Such a disturbing meaning, as you put it, never crossed my mind... or, I would wager, any of several others until they found this thread. This could be claimed as an issue resulting from having one's mind in the proverbial gutter and/or being willing to assume (and we know what they say about assuming). An analogous concern is the institutional amnesia regarding the fact of the swastika predating the beliefs of a certain moustached Austrian by several centuries.

I think Freud would have had a blast with the original poster. I would never have gotten any sexual references from a carnal ape.. or whatever tube you speak of.

The gorilla snatch is just funny. I guess it would drive some carnal apes pretty wild.

Anyway, neither of those got nothing on:

He made me lol.

Still not 'dangerous'.

You didn't? Here's how my dictionary defines the word "carnal".

carnal
Pronunciation: /ˈkɑːn(ə)l/
adjective
relating to physical, especially sexual, needs and activities:
carnal desire

Seems fairly clear-cut to me. Not that I take umbrage or anything. In fact, I don't mind at all, but it's clearly that this doesn't mean "Carnivore Ape".
.... Who says it's supposed to mean carnivore ape?
I just want OP to know that there's at least one person out there with a similar understanding of "carnal" :)

A little deductive reasoning, based on the other "ape" names reflecting cannibalism and the like, led me to this hypothesis. I welcome any alternative theories as to what meaning was intended by the use of "carnal" in this context.

Looks like there were a couple of folks who interpreted it the same way I did. =^[.]^=

This thread is hilariously misguided. It almost feels the same as the "violent video game" problem. Some of the words have sexual meanings? Call the press! The apes want to have sex!
Yup.
