A casual player is not supposed to do this.

You're talking about target farming one of the rarest things in this game, "Augment X". That is MUCH better than an exalt, hence it needs to be rarer. Hell, even full-time streamers haven't seen this craft on a league to league basis. And in a game where trading is a thing, trading will ALWAYS be the easiest route, no matter what.

SSF players aren't really a part of the equation. The game isn't - and will probably never be balanced around SSF. SSF is a separate challenge mode - a handicap you're willingly and knowingly putting on yourself. This is what players asked for when they asked for an SSF mode.

My view? When you get to a point where "Augment X" is the only thing that improves your character, you're at a VERY late min/maxing stage - and upgrades SHOULD be immensely rare/hard to get.

The problem here is; is SSF broken? Or is it just out of your reach? To me, it looks like most of the SSF players think that SSF is kind of OK.

SSF is fine if you just don't care about those drops.

Again: Read up on what SSF is - and why it was added. SSF will never get increased drop rates. Chris and GGG have been very clear on that. It is meant as a more difficult game mode, where you actively CHOOSE a harder challenge. It is a game mode you CHOOSE to play in, knowing there are certain things you probably will never get.

I don't play SSF because I don't want to put a handicap on myself. My league ambitions are bigger than what I can achieve in SSF on my limited schedule. It's that simple.

SSF is TOTALLY fine if you're OK with not being able to get everything you want. You seem to think that you should be able to get your hands on everything you want. And I'm TOTALLY fine with not being able to get everything I want - even in trade league. I even want them to remove Harvest. "Need" and "want" are two very different terms.
