Something must be done about The Forbidden Trove Discord

There is a sort of soft-binding when it comes to items: when the means to acquire it outweighs any possible value on the market. I SORT of achieved this with my sword: it takes at least 5 hours of low level monotony to get the damn thing but it's only worth about 2-3 exalted orbs on poe.trade. You can make a LOT more than that in 5 hours playing PoE even semi-seriously. I heard once that a certain GGG dev liked (likes?) to farm my sword early into a league to try to get a good price for it, which is...really weird, but hey, you do you, Unnamed Dev.
Point being, most people who bother to get my sword don't sell it. It's sort of bound to them -- and the dialogue reflects that. I'm not sure how that might translate to the issue at hand, but I do know GGG have naysayed binding from the start and that it completely contradicts the most basic elements of that aforementioned wild west scenario. They have gone back on their word on a number of issues, but I fully expect them to implement a marketplace before they'd ever cede to item binding. To crib Billy Joel 'Piano Man', we've watched them make love to PoE's calamitous trade like an old man with his gin and tonic. Forget reason and 'smart' choices; they're stubborn about this one. It's almost personal. Almost like being the devs of a game with a disastrously out of control economy run by malevolent consortia is core to their identity. I really wish they'd realise it isn't, and that PoE was and has always been a great ARPG in and of itself. They were never going to be CCP Games and PoE will never be Eve. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between. I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. Last edited by Foreverhappychan#4626 on Feb 28, 2022, 4:12:10 AM

" As everyone before them. I can't think of a single ARPG that has "nailed" trading. No matter how they decide to do things, they can't please everyone, hence; it can never be "perfect". Trading is hard. Fucking hard. Sure, some people claims it easy, without regards for the economy, itemization, gear acquisition, difficulty and in-game progression. I'm always curious as to how developers decide to tackle this. They know they have to "choose sides", so to speak. GGG never did, so we're stuck with this never-ending compromise we've had for years. Diablo 3 tried to go all the way to the right, and we all saw how that ended up. Nah, trading is hard. Fucking hard. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

People need to realize TFT is just a server run by some randos, not GGG. They can scam you (and most likely will), they can ban you, they can do whatever they want because its THEIR server.
Dont like it? Dont use it. Its that simple. |

why are any of you believing a single word the op wrote?
he just comes out with a flat out completely unbelievable story with 0 evidence, that reeks of bullshit, and you all just buy it right off the bat and start talking as if its a fact. you lot are buying into it through confirmation bias, it paints a picture you already believe is true because you bought into similar baseless gossip that has been posted that has all got the preferential nod because you have issues with wealthy players and want to dislike them, feel they must be immoral/corrupt to have significant ingame wealth. this completely absurd post gets made, truly laughable stuff, and immediately its "see ggg need to do something omg these people are getting away with it this is why the whole game needs changed this confirms everything i hate about ggg im never supporting this game again chris is personally responsible omg"... its such a flimsy half baked story. you think people who probably have 1000+ mirrors worth of currency and gear in this game, who have then created a massive community like tft, have put this much of the heart and soul into this game would do something that would jeopardise their accounts by breaking TOS to steal this random dudes password for what? to steal his stack of 147 chaos and 2 exalted orbs? get fking real ppl, come on, youre better than this. i know its more cosy if you can find a reason to hate people you feel are above you in some kind of pecking order but you need to see that for the defence mechanism it is and not let it twist you into a hater. ive used tft loads of times and ive traded with the people who run it many times over many many years. i have some of them on my friends list and i have no idea how they got there which means its probably someone i added or who added me to buy/sell/mirror items at some point many years ago. ive never had a problem with them and ive never seen anyone post anything of substance to make me think ill of them. i see a lot of baseless gossip and accusations being thrown around and some kind of presumption of guilt based on this. i have seen 0 evidence to suggest tft is anything other than a positive force that has removed a TON of scamming and fixing from the game by giving people some kind of structure and network to meet through and make honest trades/services. trade was way more toxic, scammy and wild west before tft. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" I'd support that. One small revision I'd like, to support friends/guild play: an item can be freely handed around between players (characters) who were in group when the item was first picked up by one of them (and given items are on the server this would be doable, at the expense of a bit more space). But yeah, if that's too complex then one trade and done would be a great limit. And suddenly the balancing would be far more like SSF, because even if the top-end crafting remained a thing one account wuold have to manage it all. Looking for a mature guild to play with?

or you know, just play ssf if you dont want to be part of the open trade economy?
and then let the trade economy just be the trade economy because its fine and threads like this are nonsense made up by bad faith actors to slander dedicated members of the poe community? I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

i like tft very much , i never got scammed because i dont trade with new people unless they compensate my item with equal amount of orbs .
i also buy challenges completion there for stuff that i dont want do myself ( good luck doing that in tradechat lol) i think every guy who rants about tft is either jealous or a noob |

" Don't need to buy into the OP. I feel TFT's unaccountability and arbitrariness is a problem regardless of whether the OP's story is true. Ditto the state of Harvest and other 'non-tradable' trades. As long as they were just facilitating services and bulk purchases, it was okay cos they were merely a supplementary community for those who wished to be part of it. Now however a lot of people are turning to them who aren't there cos they want the community, but cos they want something that at present TFT is pretty much the only game in town to provide. Sure one can say that's on GGG, but whoever's fault it is, it's still a problem. |

I want to add that TFT is almost necessary in trading for specific passive nodes with timeless jewels. The seller can livestream the passive nodes and seed.
This description is not too helpful in knowing what the specific passive nodes are: Denoted service of 6353 dekhara in the akhara of Nasima Passives in radius are Conquered by the Maraketh Historic What are the alternatives to TFT? GGG certainly will not be providing them. " A bigger problem would be TFT not existing. TFT allows players to really treat POE like a job and earn ex for services. " TFT will continue to exist. It'll just go back to how it was before, a niche community that you engaged with out of interest rather than necessity. TFT began as a society of high end crafters for high end crafters. It can go back to that. Regular players should never have to deal with TFT. Even your example of timeless jewels is mostly only done by top end players. Regular players tend to use timeless jewels just for their keystones, with the notables as a bonus.
