Why people dont play on hardcore?

Because the game is 400 % deadlier, especially in the unfair mechanics part - I play SC and 80 % of the time I die I've got no idea what killed me. That really doesn't motivate me to try HC.

Well I cant say that game became deadlier, sure Maven/feared/sirus are deadly fights, but so was Uber elder back then, not only mechanical fight but also huge dps race and defense check. I feel sirus is more forgiving than uber elder.

The bosses are fine actually, at least when you don't play melee (true melee - "my off-screen range skill has melee tag on it, so it's melee" doesn't count).

I mean more the random rhoa charge one-shot, on-death effects hidden by delirium fog, press V to instantly die back in Scourge, assassination-induced lag spike kill, "ha you missed blade vortex on an organ" metamorph, "you read the remnants twice, right?" on Expedition, a strongbox dropping 20 porcupines on your head, death-in-1-second burning ground from exarch influennce, and stuff like that.

1) Way too many DCs with perfect fiber, at least once every 2 days.
2) Restricts the playstyle to even more Wiki centered as there is no way you should do any new boss on HC without a guide first which I never do for bosses.
3) Too many weird shotgun effects that aren't really totally always intended.
4) Too many boss one-shots that can screw you over even if you play right - UElder, Shaper with Maven etc.
5) The game's content is designed around Softcore, last league start was a no deal for Hardcore.
6) Too many bugs.

I'd say PoE 3.0 and prior to that was pretty reasonable for Hardcore if you got no DCs, now not so much.

aside from random lag, disconnections, and other tomfuckery, i dont play hardcore mainly for the same reason i dont play league. im not going to spend a shit load of time and currency into my character just to have to start all over again from square one all of the time.

the only time i want to do that is if my build gets severely broken by a nerf or something. i'd rather play through the game at my own pace rather than have to start anew then be rush rush rushed to get to the same place that i already was 3 months ago. no thanks. i dont care for bragging rights or e-peen sorta thing. to hell with all of that. unless hardcore and league can offer me a better experience than i can obtain in standard, i wont bother. i dont give a damn about hardcore and i can always wait a couple months for the league to end to buy whatever exclusive item that was gated behind the league.

Right. And even if that does happen, it's seldom the complete ascendancy, let alone the class, that becomes useless. I've had to re-spec and re-gear my character several times over the years, as well as play with a different ascendancy a few times, but I've never had to give up the character itself.

Seems to me - SSFHC is very popular. They even win money playing it sometimes and everyone follows the leader board (more like death board lol). I think what happened is all the HC players just moved to SSFHC for the extra hardness, leaving trading HC a lonely place as you note. As far as why I don't play - I have many times but I don't like playing that way...I like double Beyond and other sick YOLO maps which makes HC not an option. I've made red maps then it all goes to hell.
