Lost Ark is POE Killer

I think at this point, any real discussion is petty, on both sides.

LA is a monster. PoE is a fart in the wind in comparison, and will be whenever Diablo 4 comes out as well. And that's ok. I'd like PoE to be better, but if it isnt there are plenty of other options.

As far as being dead... well that's not happening. It's more like pseudo death due to irrelevance. Like if you sold your house, tossed away the PC and cell phone, moved to the wilderness and lived off the land. Technically you are not dead, just nobody gives a fuck about what you are doing. PoE is headed that way. But hey some folks like the off the grid, isolated, lifestyle. Hell there are even TV shows like Alaskan Bush.

IMO Lost Ark looks dum as FK not wasting my time playing that sh**T
Can't wait for Lost Ark to become a dead game just like New World. I don't get the hype.

The New World comparisons are bad, for many, reasons, but top amongst them is the fact that LA isnt a new game. It's been out for years, this is just the Western release.

Also the endgame and PvP are very entertaining. Especially the PvP. Nobody can predict the future of course, but LA is smooth, nearly bug free, and has multiple years of content on the way that's already been tested and released in another region.

So maybe LA "dies" but that wont be for many years...

I don't think that the core audience of PoE can be taken away by Lost Ark. Some of the casual players, maybe, but I dont think that it would be a big loss for PoE.

I dont expect much growth from PoE at this point (unless some major game design changes happen), however, I also dont see any particular game having a lasting impact on PoE's playerbase. The only real things that can have a lasting impact on PoE's playerbase are the design decisions made by GGG (as was evident with Expedition patch).

Plenty of smaller games out there, being liked by a dedicated community. Nothing wrong with those. Hell, there's tons of those out there. It's almost like some people in here are personally butthurt over the fact that PoE isn't trying to casualize itself enough to be called "relevant".

PoE has managed to stay alive as "irrelevant" for a decade. Lets see how long all these "PoE killers" manage to stay "relevant".

I mean are we not in agreement then?

Torchlight 3 is still "alive" right? PoE can be "alive" with a few thousand players sure, but nobody will care.

Too much P2W, the game is already dead to me. I bet LA will soon lose most of the players when people find out that you can just swipe your credit card and get best gear in one day and catch up to top players. The game doing well in other regions doesn't mean it will do well here. DFO, which is the most popular game in the world has like 500 players on steam...

Lol. You cannot do this, and it's not even close. There isnt gear you can buy directly. You can I suppose buy some upgrade materials really inefficiently, but it's a timesaver at best.

Plus the PvP is normalized so the gear difference doesnt matter. You cannot P2W PvP.

I guess everyone's P2W definitions are different, but we would need to know what you have "won" with any purchase.

Sure, as long as you're in TL3-forums too, talking about how irrelevant that game is, we are in agreement.

Anyhow, PoE is currently the 19th most played game on Steam, the worlds largest gaming platform, and finds itself besides titles like Destiny 2, FIFA 22 and ARK. Knowing that only half of the player base uses Steam while playing PoE, I think you're pretty "harsh" when you consider it "irrelevant". But maybe a game has to be casual enough to be the biggest in the world, or else it's "irrelevant" in your mind. So be it, it's probably a valid point of view.
