I have radial nerve palsy aka wrist drop. that wierd as shit brace keeps my hand upright and helps me use my fingers to avoid atropy. i alsh have been going to occupational therapy 3x a week where tthey basically elecrocute my arm for 2 hrs to keep the muscles active and try to releive the pressure on the nerve.
fun stuff eh? ps..also lol at some of the jokes here but i think ion won that was classic man. now we need a name for it...although The Wrist Dropper already is kinda catchy....pneuma...second place Game needs monkey pets.

hm. Radial nerve palsy.
Well, I'm aware of the methods they use overseas to some extent, but the brace design isn't that familiar to me as a newly minted medical school graduate. In India, we have to make do with a lot less. That is to say, a plaster cast. The higher end hospitals and physio centres here do apply the electrocution method however. 1337 21gn17ur3

How does one get radial nerve palsy? Seems it sucks for no good reason. :(

It's pretty complex but the tl;dr version is blunt or sharp force injury to any of the following: the brachial plexus (the roots which go on to form the radial nerve), the radial nerve at the level of the spiral groove, or the same at the level of the wrist or elbow joints.
There are also a lot of differing variants of radial nerve palsy (Saturday night syndrome, Erb's and Klumpke's paralysis, and so forth) but the radial nerve palsy in question almost always forms a forearm like this: ![]() this is known as a radial claw hand. Any form of traumatic injury is a common cause for such an occurrence. The only temporary palsy is Saturday night syndrome. edit: it is a very common occurrence in fractures of the humerus at the level of the spiral groove and a fracture of the distal 2/3 of the radius, as the nerve and bone are very close to each other and often simultaneously suffer the same trauma as a result. 1337 21gn17ur3 Last edited by ExiledToWraeclast#6661 on Apr 10, 2013, 9:26:39 AM

Basically Exiled summed it up. i am hoping it is Saturday Night Palsy (aka slept on it wrong. The term refers to getting durnk on Saturday night and sleeping in a strange position when drunk) This is most likely after all the tests... i tend to fall asleep in my computer chair quite often....
I had a serious injury to my shoulder in 2001, and they mostly ruled that out with all the tests and mri's.But this is still a posibility because i basically broke every bone from my elbow to my collarbone. The claw hand is exactly what my hand looks like and = why i have that brace, but he didnt include a picture of the wrist drop.. ie my wrist has no usage and i cand raise my hand to be even with my arm. the brace helps keep my wrist straight as well.
