Can Path of Exile compete with Lost Ark and Elden Ring?

lost ark is going to permanently chop a sizable population off poe

this isnt a game like the other "killers", lost ark is already a released game since 2019 that has been fleshed out for 3 years
I think, no more comments needed.

Also there is no spike at poe online in current weekend at all.
Players are not returning.

You didn't know SmileGate.

I played some of their games. And they know gaming business. That is what I can tell. Their model is usually very P2W at the top end, but they also give lots of stuff so the casual and mid-tier players are not discouraged.
Where PoE is right now on concurrent players compared to release is usually where it is 2-4 weeks after league start. Game is peaking at about 50% of the league start numbers 8 days into the league (from 158k to 82k). This is also Saturday and the game has seen a 6% drop compared to Friday. None of this is that significant and probably has no real effect on GGG long term, but it's pretty clear Lost Ark has had a fairly noticeable effect on player numbers this league. We shouldn't really have to look at concurrency numbers for this though, like 80% of the usual PoE streamers have been playing Lost Ark all week. They had just enough time to rush boss kills and win prizes in the league event before swapping over to the LA head start.

I don't think we can know if delaying the league start was worthwhile in the end, and I don't think GGG will ever say. It was definitely a smooth start.

The start of next league PoE will undoubtedly be back to it's normal player and streamer retention. Lost Ark is a pretty solid game and in the same genre as PoE, but it's a slow burn game and without the competitive nature, and people wont have a problem setting it aside for a few weeks next season to play something else. Right now it's the release hype of LA that is pulling people away from other games.
Lost Ark has a great amount of interest and rightly so but is still in the honeymoon period. Considering the amount of WOW and other disgruntled MMO fans there are in the World the No.s can be viewed both negative or positive. Only the most stringent of haters or lovers will view it in a single light and try to convince others of their viewpoint.

Well, you are right for the most part. Just that Lost Ark does have competition in both PvE and PvP. How else could it be P2W or P2Progress or whatever if it's not...?

Except PvP is equalized and nobody can have any sort of gear or stat advantage in it, it's purely skill based. I'm not sure there is much competition to get "world first" in the various PvE dungeons either.

There is some large scale GvG stuff in the game, but I don't have much knowledge of it.

Close, but not there. NW didnt go above 1M. Peak was around 970k.
LA is pretty much the #1 game on steam because you cant compare it to #1 from the past (PUBG with over 3M) since back then steam was legal in China.
