Can Path of Exile compete with Lost Ark and Elden Ring?

This thread is funny because Lost Ark is nothing like PoE. It's lightyears away from scratching the same itch.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Lots of butt hurt in this thread. Why 24 pages to talk about another game? Just play PoE if you have fun playing PoE or another game if you don't.

Well they did. But they also want to show GGG how wrong they are when they treated casuals like dirt. And GGG has to make lots QoL improvement to get them back. Oh, also improve trading.

Talking about spiteful ex, ya know.
@op You are effectively asking if apples are better than oranges (or vice versa). The games are different. Enjoy all three, if you want. That's a totally valid option.

The lost ark engine seem nice, camera moving, visuals all neat, but the arcade gamehall fighting game action is DISGUSTING. Just stunlocking everything with flash grenade screen shaking popping effects kapakapapowpowpow... no thanks.
And you have no build options like in poe.

Elden ring is just a big dark souls?
Fake mmo in the name. Has nothing on it like wow, gw2, ffxiv, etc.
No thanks again.
Well, they're big enough to see it by themselves. Anyways, as long as there will be people at GGG who comes up with brilliant fun ideas like this league with the Toxic Archnemesis that has a cast on death toxic ball that pretty much insta-kill you, that only serve the purpose of frustrating people, the majority of people will go look elswere. This game doesn't need QoL to attract more people or attract people back, it needs to start over with another mind set behind the gears.

Maybe not exactly the same genre, we agree. But it's impossible to think many poe players won't be trying Lost Ark.

I wish this was true. Now it's basically play meta or suffer.

I really don't get the sentiment of the people u quoted.

Do some people believe PoE players are only playing ARPGs? The games might not be the same, but I only have so much time to play a game per day.
If I play PoE, I have to devote my whole day to playing PoE. If I wanna play another game, doesn't matter if it's Lost Ark, Elden Ring or FIFA 2056, I won't have time to play PoE.

So the only question is, can another game hold my attention and keep me entertained, that I won't miss playing PoE.

To bring it into perspective of what this thread is about, for me personally:

- I play around 4 hours per day
- I have around 200+ hours in every Dark Souls game (so ~600 hours, didnt play Demon Souls yet)
- Elden Ring is supposed to be larger than previous titles, so there's a good chance of putting >300 hours into that game
- devided by 4 hours per day and maybe 10 hours on sundays, thats 34 hours per week
- so let's say I'll have 8 weeks of Elden Ring to go

Am I expecting to be craving for PoE during that time? nah, never have during a Dark Souls period.

The same goes for Lost Ark, but that game is open end. Whenever I played WoW for example, I skipped PoE completely.
So if LA can keep me entertained like WoW used to, I don't see myself coming back to PoE for a while.
That doesn't mean that I quit PoE tho... it's just a longer break.

So basically the only question is, am I an outlier or the norm? Are more people like that or does the majority play 3+ games per day.

/e: in before someone says it: I'm only here posting, because I'm in a 7000 queue for Lost Ark. Otherwise I wouldn't bother and play instead.

Well even after so many years PoE is still growing and already has very strong and consistent fan base, which is still growing.
There were so many these new game with big burst of population (PoE killers, WoW killers, Diablo killers etc.), but where these games are now? I hope Lost ark survives after hype train pases. From what I've seen - it is completely different game than PoE, more story/quests/lore driven game, while PoE is hardcore farming game, which includes increadibly hard gameplay (lose consentration for 0.1s - you are dead). I doubt any arpg game can now compete with PoE in high complexity/hardcore setting, every other new arpg has to be easier, less complex etc. PoE atm is a pinnacle of complexity (and there are a lot of players who likes complexity, to sit in PoB for hours, to sit in craftofexile for hours, to be thinking of new ways to min-max atlas tree, etc. etc.).
