3.16 was GGG's biggest debacle. Giving them one more league to right the ship.

The reason u feel this way is becouse you missed out on 3.13.

Most people that played 3.13 don't feel like playing the game in it's current state.

A lot of the regular forum cryhards moaned about Harvest and Ritual leagues as well and then just jumped on the Harvest best thing ever circle jerk after those leagues were done to use Harvest removal as another stick to beat GGG with.

Second, for those who hate the horrid RNG fest that is PoE crafting, 3.13 represents by far the best the game has ever been (even if I agree it needed tuning, like best harvest crafts should come after beating Sirus AL8, not running a random T11 map, and crafts should not be tradeable nor items harvest-crafted)

Yeah, but just because you hate RNG doesn't mean its bad for the game. It just means its an obstacle you don't like that's between you and the thing you want. Wanting things is part of what motivates you to play and getting things that aren't accessible, aren't easy, or aren't normal to get creates the highs we all chase.

You know there was another ARPG where people complained about RNG and so the devs normalized the most powerful items. People had nothing to chase so they added an uber version of those items and when that got boring they added a super uber version. Last I heard they brought "new life" to the game with super duper uber weapon versions.

It's a matter of perception and fine tuning that is exacerbated by unrestricted trade, IMO. If the exitment you get from successfuly obtaining something through RNG from time to time is, by and large, overshadowed by the frustration and the sense of having wasted your time/resources, then people will not engage with it and will see it as a bad system.

Add to this the balancing needed to have no more than a certain amount of powerful items offered though trade, and you will see how, individually, your chances of obtaining something good via RNG plummet. That's why, as long as trade remains unrestricted, both drops and crafting will never be good.

Good points.

On top of that, we have the worst trade possible to try and annoy people out of using it.

A bad system set up on top of a bad system, with intentional flaws (trade being very annoying and stupid) set up to balance out another bad system (you are super unlikely to drop anything useful for your build, making trade almost always superior).

For sure. However, the numbers dont particularly support the argument that removing determinism increased players interest in the game either.

The argument was that GGG makes changes for the game not the players and that means protecting the game state for the long term and not chasing short term gains through player appeasement.

Also, the numbers don't support really anything other than its the 3rd league of the major expansion. The 3rd and 4th leagues traditionally have the worst returns and retention while the 1st and 2nd are usually the record setters, which was true again this year.

Yeah this one really irked me. I worked my ass off leveling my Hextouch gem so I could get my extra curse only to be rewarded with learning it was nerfed and no longer exists. I was pretty bummed out because I had been looking forward to finally finishing this for a long time.
