3.16 was GGG's biggest debacle. Giving them one more league to right the ship.

The idea that you think you're the majority opinion just baffles me.

Is the community split, yep, but it's not equal and the vast majority of people are just rolling with the game. Sure, some of them might pine after a build from 3 or more leagues ago, but they understand the game changes league to league and they don't think about it too much beyond that.

The great thing about this league is that it generated a lot of discussion about what a good PoE looks likes. And it's clear that there is a big division between easy mode and hard mode players. You can think of it as determinist or non-determinist if you wish. Trading is determinist, perfect crafting is determinist. Loot that has surprise and has value, is non-determinist. The game is broken because the loot system isn't giving those surprises often enough and therefore can't compete with even weakly determinist crafting or trading methods. But the reason that loot is rubbish is because of the trading economy. Some players demand for an easy way out ruins the game for everyone.

GGG knows this but is caught trying to please both types of players and something has to give, and it looks like they are falling on the side of the game they want to make, not what some people like you want. As they have been at pains to illustrate to you, the processes that you don't like are the game. You just want the ex.

Steam charts.

If you disagree with me, provide better data. But, obviously you cant.

GGG is doubling down on their idea that people love RNG progression instead of, you know, grinding it out and slowly making steady progress.

Which is weird, because no one I know uses chaos orbs to craft, or uses ex to slam, or gets excited about ground drops which have that RNG chance to be god items, or likes the expedition NPC that is totally random RNG Gwynnen or whatever.

Everyone use THE most deterministic method they can, nothing else.

But somehow we all hate determinism and it is not fun.... what???

I agree with the OP, if they continue down the current road they are on, then it will not be a game for me (and players like me).

Nothing wrong with that, Ill thank them for the fun times and move on.

Well guess what bud, now you know a person.

I love RNG in ARPGS over deterministic. It's what these games were founded on.

I also use chaos to craft items, and I've personally slammed some exalted this league on items I'm still using.

I still get excited for ground item drops, hell my cold sst's weapon was found on the ground exactly how it is now, and I exalt slammed the phys as fire.

I also REALLY like the expedition NPC gwenn with the gambling, my favorite out of the 4 for sure.

So now you can stop saying that nobody likes or uses any of the things you listed, because here I am.

His use of the word baffles is pretty fitting. You throw the word data out like it proves he's wrong to say so. It is limited data, the most we have as players but limited in its use and application. Especially when talking about peoples opinions or reasons in such an absolute manner as you just did.

“ I hate the feeling of being gated from harder content unless I somehow grind out 50 ex or more to be able to afford the equipment needed to do the harder content, which for a no life player may take a week but for a casual player may take the entire league if they're even lucky enough.”

Sorry to subvert your expectations, but this is wildly lowballing how much currency even a casual would/should make given they played an entire league. I don’t consider myself casual, as I can make 50ex pretty easily in a day. But I league started one of the worst specs a person could league start, the now dead Burning Arrow Elementalist, and I’ve played that character all the way to pinnacle performance this league. Im assuming just about any other build would have made things easier for me, and if I could this with a full-time job and other obligations on my days off, I think you can too.

Yeah, if you need "50 ex or more" to make a build work, it's either a) a pretty bad build that needs serious compensation in the gear department, or b) A high maintenance build with a high cost/ceiling.

This fairytale that you need A LOT of currency to beat the game, has gone on for too long. Sure, you CAN scale builds more or less indefinite, but it's not required, unless you're aiming for deep depths or T16+ 100% delirium maps. There are plenty of content creators out there, showcasing builds on a <10 ex budget good enough to beat every boss in the game.

I don't know if this misconception comes from hyperboling, or people blindly looking at the "BiS gear section" on build guides.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

I dont believe you. Bud.

Unless you are in SSF and there is literally nothing better to do with currency. Then, sure. However, Chris and his minions have said countless times the game is balanced around trade, even that they thought the game required trade, so your point is moot.

So you have no data, you have nothing but you own feelings, but you try to do throw doubt on the data that exists?

How are you extrapolating the Steam figures into a majority opinion? At no point has the fall in numbers been anywhere near 50% relative to the last league.

I have done analysis on the steam figures and posted them on this forum, and this showed an initial drop of 25% but that by this point in the cycle the player retentions seems to be higher than in Ultimatum. at no point have the figures been as high as a 50% difference.

I am not saying that no one agrees with you, or that you are a small crowd of people, but you are still a vocal minority with plenty of opinions to be found on reddit, from streamers and on this forum that this has been a top 3 league. This is a divisive topic and I am sure if GGG can find a way they will try to keep both camps happy. But if they have to make a choice, I am afraid you are on the losing side of this argument.
