D2R might bring new PoE players
D2R will siphon a lot of POE players away.
For a while. It's still the same game from 20 years ago. The magic of playing it with updated graphics won't last forever. |

Brand new players will absolutely play D2R a few months but nostalgic players aren't going to be farming Meph/Pindle/Baal etc. for long in 2021. It's just not deep enough. They'll be done with D2R by 3.16, if 3.16 is any good, else they'll definitely be ready for 3.17. The spike of new D2R player refugees will probably be in 3.17.
I wonder if Blizzard will time ladder seasons to coincide with PoE leagues. That would be a kick in the jewels. |

" They are. Think the PoE community as a whole is exhausted - for many reasons. Lots of changes, lots of controversies, league, BPL, Iolite and so on. And even for the not-so-negative crowd, the overwhelming negativity is still exhausting. Think the timing of D2R is a good thing for PoE. A good excuse/push to take a break, play something else and wait to see if the 3.16 patch notes manages to tickle your fancy. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

" Comon return of the legend vs. hated leauge entering 3 rd month. Really?! I'm bored with D2 at lvl. 21. Clunky, old, no craft, poor item drop. i feel screwed here. Last edited by kaktttusikaa3#0870 on Sep 24, 2021, 11:07:48 AM

I never played D2 before, but decided to give a shot cause why not.
And yeeaa. I can see why some people swear to it. It has a nice atmosphere and the D2R graphics fit the game and it looks fine. But it definitely feels old. Biggest things that will make me not play it much is the skill/action bar system. Having to use a hotkey and then right click. I suppose its something you can get used to, but nah not for me. Potion system. Yeaa, if people think PoE is bad then D2R is horrendous. Constantly open up the inventory to fill up your potion slots. No thanks. I would have played it quite a bit if those 2 things were more modern and user friendly. |

" Best thing about D2 is the soundtrack. Seriously, IMO it's the best game soundtrack ever. It's still a great game but POE scratches the itch for me whenever I want to play it. POE at least used to be it's spiritual sequel. I don't think D2 does anything that POE doesn't do better, except for that amazing soundtrack. Well maybe the inclusion of mercs, and 99% of D2 players use Act 2 mercs. |

" Idk about that. At least loot drops and bosses matter in D2R. Dont need a damn loot filter or 3 open tabs to progress. Also I do like the skill specialties that are character based, not gem based. And let's be real the majority of the PoE passives trees are 80% the same with some minor branch variations (and clusters). I like that there are build enabling sets, legendaries, and runewords. Most of PoE uniques are vendor trash, and the chances you actually find an upgrade after killing a mob is slim. It's old no doubt, I think you can still learn things from a classic.
