Crafting in this game is bad and it is base on 1990 standards

Again, this "old" argument. Crafting in PoE isn't based on "old standards", it's based on an RNG environment.

Call it bad? Fair.
Call it not enough deterministic? By all means.
But don't call it "old", it's a stupid argument.

right.

im 39, im old enough to have played d2 on launch, i dont remember a crafting system like this being in it. i played d1 on launch, no crafting system like this. i played many games through the 90s, none had crafting like this.

i remember playing pc games in 1990, what were we on then? 386 machines? a friend had a 286 we played stuff on, it was super basic, there was no crafting at all in the games. i had an amiga 500, i had no games with crafting in them, we had games like silkworm, you could move up, down, left, right and press the fire button. that was basically the game, that was pretty much every game at that point.

so in this game 95% of the gg gear is crafted gear. probably safe to say crafting shouldnt be more easy/powerful than it currently is. they can improve it for sure, but the bit where we say oh, only rich people can do it with exalts... it should cost a few chaos instead?

no. come on, thats not a reasonable expectation.
The problem I think with people who don't like the crafting system is that they don't take the whole system into consideration. They think crafting is making that close to mirror tier item they want for their build, when the real meat of the crafting system is adding something you need to make an existing piece of gear better.

Crafting is fine. It serves it's purpose for the common user while still making it "possible" to craft something outrageously powerful for those who want to invest in learning the system and spending the necessary currency.
We had mirror tier items way before we even had Harvest, enough said.
Games were a whole lot better in 1990.

By what metric?

It is pretty much always better to spend your currency on trading for items than trying to craft with it.

That alone suggests crafting is in a bad spot for the 'common user', no?
luck is luck

rng is not really crafting its just hitting a slot machine

Crafting in this game mainly serves one purpose: To be hard enough that only a fraction of the players can do it and thus keep the black market from selling items and exalted.

You could say that this is conspiracy theory, but I think that's more plausible than saying that GGG removed harvest because it was too powerful, well, haven't you seen this in your first league???

no not really, the common user rarely trades.

it will almost always be cheaper to buy something than craft it, because if it were cheaper to craft it no one would buy things, and then people who have things they dont need would drop their prices because selling it for something is better than keeping it for nothing. so the market will always drop below the cost of the craft unless the craft is unknown to the wider public.

what you describe will always be true no matter what they do to crafting, so theres no point even talking about it like its a variable that could be changed.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
If you're a person who is playing for only 2 hours a day, both trading and crafting will be difficult no matter what is changed as you're not on enough to get currency.

You also wouldn't even know the impact Harvest had on the economy, and to be honest as a person who delved into crafting pre-harvest I absolutely hated the Harvest crafting as it devalued everything people put their hard work into prior to it. It also made other forms of crafting obsolete, aside from possibly alt spamming, Exalts became nothing but a trading currency that you may as well just renamed to gold, nobody used it for crafting anymore aside from on a work bench.

I used more exalts to directly slam items in harvest than I have in every other league combined, and I've played a lot of leagues and had more exalts than I could use. Without harvest, slamming exalts is just a crapshoot outside of crafting +1 gems or other niche cases, whereas in harvest you can actually mitigate risk and continually try, rather than just "close your eyes" and ruin an item, then try again with 200 ex and sell the failed "crafts." Crafting without harvest was only devalued by harvest because it was fucking terrible, and any decent system shows how much better it could be than the garbage brute-forcing "crafting" money machine we had before.
There's no powercreep here. Creep implies it's slow and could be overlooked, this is a full out sprint.

Its a matter of preference.

I have nothing against people who like it.

Personally I find it stupidly implemented, a overcomplicated slot machine where you can gamble.

I have crafted two endgame items, using reddit guides to abuse fossil blocking, Harvest addons and double influence.

I found it neither fun nor rewarding, just tedious and unintuitive.

And only really of use to those who need the power boost to generate gazillions of DPS required to zoom-zoom their way through fights that ought to be a challenge.

Meanwhile, I still muddle through with basic orb crafting and the workbench, and have a pretty good time. =^[.]^=
