Didn't people skip the D2 campaign as much as possible?
" It is indeed subjective, which is why it's important to look at something objective, like steam player numbers. And, looking at those, many, many player don't enjoy the current state of the game terribly much. Last edited by Xyel#0284 on Aug 21, 2021, 5:53:16 PM

" That is only objective in that it is measurable. It is not objective in terms of a better game as that is subjective and personal. More players doesn’t make the game better or worse objectively. More streamers doesn’t make it better or worse either. There is a lot of Minecraft streamers. My kids loves them. I don’t consider that a game that is better than POE. If the goal of every game is to appeal to the largest audience then I think my version of good games will stop being made. Thanks for all the fish! Diablo 1 & 2 was something I played during the time it came out, and some online and that was it. And I am not ever going to or planning to play it ever again.
Then Diablo 3 came along and I played that for a while, and even on HardCore. And soon we will see Diablo 4 come along and I am never ever gonna play or look at it. I´m tired of Diablo. Im tired of Blizzard. I´m tired of now Activision who owns Blizzard. And other then that, I´m just fucked up tired. And whether we like it or not, Blizzard have had it´s glory of days and we all know it is now over. For good. And if those who does not think Blizzard´s days of glory are over, name one single thing that may save their sorry litl a$$e$, which is NOT related to anything Diablo, Hearthstone, StarCraft or WarCraft or ANYTHING there of. We also know that this thread is also dead, and belongs somewhere else. |

" Not automatically, but it's by far the best available indicator. Personal opinion, on the other hand, especially in "I like this so it's good, and I don't like that so it's bad" isn't - a chef that thinks that the best way to make a soup is to piss into the pot might truly believe his soup is the best soup in the world, but he won't make it terribly far in the restaurant industry. From the game's perspective, if the next league does as this one has, then GGG will face the choice between reverting this new course into the old one and a heavy downsizing, with PoE 2 likely getting postponed indefinitely. | |
" It's not about appealing to the largest audience. It's about appealing to a large ENOUGH audience, in particular because a larger audience means more potential for paying customers and revenues (especially in a non-P2W game where spending is probably a lot more evenly distributed among the populace instead of just a select few whales paying tons to win like how many other F2P games are set up). Chris stated in the past that they'll have to cut staff if they can't keep up their revenue stream, and in the Baeclast interview he's confirmed revenues are down a whopping 30% this league. If they can't maintain or get back that player base (along with the portion of spending customers that it contained), they'll either have to find a way to get the current player base to spend more to make up for it (which is difficult since PoE is not a P2W game so there's only a limited amount of options to further monetize it) or downsize, which would not only affect the game's future but would affect PoE2's development as well. If you like Path of Exile's current direction yourself, for the sake of the vision you should start spending more to make up for those people who hated it and left, otherwise GGG will be forced to change the direction to get back those players and their money.
