Didn't people skip the D2 campaign as much as possible?
" I love the soundscape - one of the most memorable in all of gaming to me, but it can't make up for 20 year old mechanics. Only two abilities? One if you want to use an aura, and only one aura (unless you get it on gear or merc)? Bleh. It's like classic beat 'em ups. Without a nice, developed combo system that the few modern gems of the genre have, the old ones (e.g. in the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle) feel extremely simple. I played the hell out of Final Fight and Aliens vs. Predator in the arcades, but now they just feel bland after stuff like Dragon's Crown, River City Girls, and Fight'n Rage. " I just want a modern ARPG to have the Runes and Runewords system again. I don't want something as obnoxious as Enigma, obviously, but the system itself was really, REALLY cool to me, and it baffles me that no other game I know of has tried to implement a similar system. |

" GGG is going to start regretting doing temporary events or trying things just to see, because this community just can't enjoy an event and then let it go. People also mistakenly think that something isn't in the game because it hasn't been developed, when the reason more often than not is because they don't want it as a permanent part of the game. The endless delve event was broken. I've never gotten to level 90 so fast. I was also never so happy to stop an event either. And it was completely SSF. Imagine adding the ability to trade and twink your way through it. It would be hard to balance against alternatives, and it would quickly suffer the same problems as the current acts. Then the community will be up in arms for another alternative. Now I'm not saying that I'm against an alternative means to level a character, just that we should respect how hard that might be to balance against the acts, and that it will open a vicious cycle of the community wanting more and easy (because they always do). Thanks for all the fish!

" sure people can. But People can't stand it, when the "event" shows a BIG leap into a more quality game, and then taken it away, because , it'Äs not "the vision" |
|
" Your post is exhibit A for my point. A more quality game is highly subjective, and since GGG did these events with no intent of making them permanent, the community should have managed their expectations and accepted it for what it was --> Temporary. Instead, the group that was confused about why things are not in the game gets angry and tantrums across all modes of communication. I don't personally think the game was higher quality with an endless delve or harvest. Subjective. Thanks for all the fish!

Well some of us understand the word temporary just fine, and wish that more leagues and mechanics had truly been temporary instead of ending up as content bloat.
Some of us also want the game to feel like less of a chore. At least in D2 you didn't know for a fact that the devs were making certain things tedious and inconvenient on purpose. It's one thing to be annoyed by something, it's another to know that they are annoying us with it on purpose. Trade/Crafting/Leveling/etc. all just feel worse when you know that's how they want you to feel about it because then you'll utilize it less and "play longer" to progress instead. " You bind skills with the F1-F9 keys, so no you aren't stuck with only one or two, just the controls are old school. |
|
" That's not the point. Before the endless delve event alternate leveling method opponents were saying: 'Hurr durr, endless delve wouldn't work. How would you get skill gems, passives that you get from quests and accendancy?' So the point is that the event proved that it actually is possible and that technology is there. It's just that GGG doesn't want to implement it. |
|
" Maybe some of the detractors were saying that. That certainly wasn't my argument. My argument was that it would make all other alternatives pale in comparison, unless they change it dramatically. The endless delve event more than confirmed that. It was stupid easy. I don't know what factor I would use, but it was a lot easier than acts. Perhaps if they made it a quarter as fast as the delve event maybe. Maybe even slower. Thanks for all the fish!

As a big acts hater I would personally agree to a compromise - make it so that it's slower to reach maps via Delve than it is via acts - up to devs how they could slow the Delve down. That way speedruners and people who want to get to red maps day one would still have to go for the acts. I personally would choose Delve either way because it is more fun to me and has more diversity/choices than acts - selecting nodes, different areas, upgrading your cart.
But the absolutely best option that already was suggested: make it mandatory to complete acts on your first character of the league and add an option to level the rest of your characters through Delve. This way players won't be able to ignore acts completely and the racing aspect at the league start would still be alive. |
|
" Yeah. I agree the best ideas involve going through the acts the first time and an accelerated option for second and beyond. I think the waypoint idea had merit as well. Thanks for all the fish!
