Didn't people skip the D2 campaign as much as possible?

yea, the campaign was skipped after you played it a few times

you made your character and got to level 4, then did tristram runs to 12.
then you skipped to act2 and got to 18.
then you went back to act1 for cow level to ~30.
then you went to nightmare and did cows to ~50
then you went to hell and did cows to ~70
then you went to mf baal runs for the rest of the 'game'.

Sure, the campaign was the whole game, because there wasnt any game afterward. You even had to make new instances EVERY TIME. 4 minute baal run, then newgame. that's basically what mapping is now.

Not sure when you played D2 but when I did you were able to just get powerleveled from level 1 onwards by people bringing you into normal, nightmare & hell cow level runs.

I also never actually did mf baal runs, there was so much dupes and hacked items in D2 as well as public games where duping was done that I was able to just trade for everything I ever needed. I just spent every day PvP'n outside Tristram.

I absolutely cannot understand why Path of Exile is compared to Diablo 2!

D2 took place in a completely different century! It was a completely different feel to the game, a completely different hype!

Act 1-5 as quick as possible, then Cow and Baal runs endlessly to farm gear and to level.

Nothing of that exists in Path of Exile. Don't compare the games to one another.

The obvious solution for POE is mapping at level 1, it would be the closest thing to adventure mode in D3 that everyone plays, instead of the campaign for the 300th time.

I would pay for mapping from level 1 LUL

3.13 Was the best league ever!
3.18 Rest in peace my beloved recombinators, I'm gonna miss you...

I think they were discussing it as it pertains to alternate leveling methods or skipping the campaign in PoE though.

For the record I didn't like getting rushed in D2 but I would love endless delve to level in PoE.

They said you would get bored of endless delve faster but for me it's the opposite, delve is almost arcadey in a way that lends itself well to repetitive gameplay imo. Not saying I wouldn't expect to run the campaign at least the first character every league, and delve could even have a more difficult starting floor that expects you to come in with the added power of leveling uniques.

Oh well, would be nice if it happened.

Yeah, the endless delve event was fun and would really like this as an alternative to level twinks.

Using delve as a sole way of leveling would be boring in the same way as running campaing each time. But doing campaign for the first char, but using delve to level up 2nd, 3rd char would greatly mix up things.

Actually would like to make some more chars, but I cann't motivate myself to go through campaign again. Would play way more if there were alternatives.

Pay a carry then dude :). Honestly, especially since heist, their are some busted uniques that would make you sub 4h to map without even trying that hard. Having several characters in a league is extremly beneficial as you can specialize them, it's a huge deal but it costs time. I did it only once tho, in was in 3.13 and I regret nothing, gameplay involving at seeing only your character purposely unskinned crappy shoes is priceless.

I haven't played D2 endgame in many years, though I make solo playthroughs every other year or two. I seem to remember people getting rushed and sitting in cow levels semi afk for exp. During the podcast with ziz, mathil, and chris they talked about this briefly saying that with D2 "The campaign was the whole game." I don't think that's really correct.

Something the POE devs don't get that D3 did right...was skipping it.

D2 did it...D3 did it...

They realized everyone wants to go to endgame farming not bsing in storymode endless times .

+1

This would be a good solution, they could add new map tiers and adjust current ones so tier 1 is like lvl 1 monsters etc etc.

It's compared to D2 because they're both aRPG's and a lot of Path of Exile took inspiration from it, which even Chris Wilson has said on multiple occasions. On top of that Path of Exile followed the same kind of style of having 3 difficulties, normal, cruel and merciless which was changed eventually when they released Acts 5-10, now those difficulties are blended in to the acts without us having to run Acts 1-4 multiple times.

Nice hyperbole. The games were barely more than a decade apart.

Really? Is that so different than:

Act 1-10 as quick as possible, then maps and bosses endlessly to farm gear and to level.

The scenery is a bit more different, but at its core it's the same basic loop. That's why they're compared.

I think another weird way of looking at it is this: If you lived on an island and could choose Diablo 2 or Path of Exile to play for the rest of your life, and only that game, which would you pick? The old ones are masterpieces, but the new ones are modern.

D2, any version of it. PoE will be waiting for me in Hell.
