Between the players who hate changes since 3.14, and players who like changes since 3.14, perhaps there could be a rather simple explanation to the current game state: PoE character building system is too flexible for the devs to ever gain control of it, by the system's core design, not because of any specific version changes.

Each time GGG tries to nerf a builds that oneshot bosses, it turns out a number of other interesting and "non-foolproof" builds would also be ruined, with all the investments by their players.

Each time GGG tries to buff an underperforming mechanics or skill gem, it turns out another oneshot bosses build can come out of it.

Finally, performance spread between builds using the same skills is the largest I had ever seen in ARPG game, so GGG had to balance content around the strongest builds, which leaves majority of playerbase far behind those willing to spend lots of time to learn this system.

So, while I personally disagree with a number of PoE design choices, saying that GGG is "ruining the game" is wrong, in my humble opinion. If your build got destroyed since 3.14, you can always find a new one, sometimes without even changing more than half of your gear and gems.

There could be no "right" or "wrong" course here, no "vision" whatsoever. Game like PoE can never be balanced without removing like 75% of gem combinations in the first place.

I simply dont care if borked builds exist if the flipside is I get to keep my builds intact instead of everything getting carpet bombeb by da nerfhammer every 3 months.

The devs, if they really want to take down a borked build without pissing everyone off, should spend more time thinking about what makes borked build what it is and make surgical precision nerfs to that instead of barging into the room and slapping everything in hope of hitting the culprit too.
POE2 should be the ruthless vision experience and POE1 should be the zoom power fantasy sandbox to capture both audiences.
I petition to return all the fun stuff that was removed or nerfed over the years back into POE1.

yes this is the what it comes down to, and it feels like GGG don't understand this anymore, they're trying too hard to balance something that can't ever be balanced. wasting so much time tuning gems when they could be adding quality of life, improving crafting or trading or any of the other things that could do with improvements. just try and get most gems to a reasonable level of performance and then leave them.

I don't mind that some no lifer is running around with a broken build GGG, it doesn't matter to me how someone else wants to play the game, and it shouldn't result everyone else's builds being nerfed.

exactly, by design there is only one way to balance the game and this is a "total damage output" cap.

and since that's not feasible and would be a terrible way of solving the issue, ggg ever relied on "balance shifts" every league to band aid it.

players have to adapt accordingly as you have rightly mentioned.

the problem here is, since they originally decided that balance shifts is a viable solution for their game design's flaws it got easier and easier to share complete build setups. their original intention of people openly sharing build ideas and setups to advertise the game got reduced to some binary code blocks on pastebin.com.

but yeah, they can't roll back time nor change the basic design of poe over night.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
