Is it illegal/bannable to "scam" someone in game?

I've been around since the good old days of Diablo 2 "teleport" scams.

The most common reason people are so easily scammed is because they already think they are getting a huge advantage in the deal.

They are so eager to snap it up that they have "pre-sold" themselves to click OK no matter what happens.

It's a mental and emotional tactic used by hookers and politicians since the dawn of time.

Don't kick yourself too hard for falling for it. It's genetic.

And even if you're pissed as hell at the guy who scammed you, you can take comfort knowing that he will die in a freakish bus-airplane crash for being a creepy scammer.

I'm highly aware that this can only happen if someone is not very smart, but it is still concerning to see someone actively trying to trick people in trade chat with no consequence.

I agree people shouldn't be able to keep spamming chat with their fake deals/scams. Moderators should have more options to punish these people for flooding chat with their malicious trades.

They don't necessarily need to punish them for scamming after the fact so much as keeping chat clean.

Sure that's cute and all but people are punished all the time for spamming or uttering a few vulgar word.

People advertising fake trades on a trade channel constantly or who are only looking to annoy other users should be dealt with accordingly.

I remember in D2 I found a friend who taught me how to scam a bit. He first showed me (and this was with a real random person not someone he brought in to show how) how to steal peoples gear because of there own stupidity. We would have our mercs stand out side of the wall in the rouge camp while we stood inside and when a guy joined we told them if they drop there gear outside of it and we would give them a good item in return. We called it a "trust" trade. Once they did it we activated PvP and our mercs went to work.

The other time I scammed I look up on youtube for some funny videos and found a nice scam one. The soul stone looks a lot like anni as I'm sure most of you know so I decided I would try to scam someone. I went into a trade for a spirit shield for my anni and stocked up my inva so when the trade was accepted it would cancel because of a full inva. Now the item I first put in was the anni so the guy I was trading saw it and assumed it would be anni a second time, after a quick trip to my stash of course. He through the spirit shield in and I through the soul stone. Quick second later and one clueless idiot click and boom I was the proud owner of a spirit shield and he was the proud owner of mephistos soul stone. Now of course he realized right after what had just happened and some cursing was involved, not directed at me but at his stupidity. Fear not though I'm an honest person and only wanted to see just how far I could get with the scam. I dropped the anni and left the game.

Scamming is looked down on in all games, in this game it makes sense to have scammers. It wouldn't be worth GGG's time or money to punish scammers because as others said only the stupid ones will get scammed and they are not worth the time.
dude i scam this kid other day for 1 alteration orb

wsup
^_^ You will hate me and I am okay with that ^_^
@EnlightenD
scamming is encouraged by the devs....this is a very cut throat game and they say they want it to be like real life. You get cheated, you get lied to, you get sabotaged, thats how the developers wants it to be.

Stop quoting something the devs have never said they wanted.

If they wanted scamming they wouldn't develop a fair trade window.

I do *alot* of trading. Half the time I'm in the game, I'm trading rather then grinding.

That said, I have no idea how you can get scammed. You have to mouse over an item and see it to agree to trade. If it's canceled, you have to do the process over again. Just look before click? Don't be so trusting?

A couple peeps *tried* to scam me... I saw the bait and switch and called them out. They left and put me on ignore.

You can't really be "scammed" in this game.
As said before you must look at every item before you can accept trade.
If did it without looking that is completely %100 your fault.
No one should ever be punished for it.
